The Bateman Arms was built c.1750 by Sir James Bateman (Lord Mayor Of London) as a building where his Estate workers would collect on pay day. Over the years it became a staging post for weary Drovers to refresh themselves as they walked livestock from West Wales to markets in Birmingham and London.Today, Mike Pope and his team provide a warm welcome to both locals and the many business and leisure visitors who travel to the Marches throughout the year. Food and service both excellent as they always are at The Riverside. Cant say I was much taken with the "smoked butter" but this is just personal taste. I had the pork terrine as a starter, this was delicious but I would have appreciated some bread or a roll to have with it, but this is splitting hairs. The meal was excellent.

Stayed here overnight and booked a table in the restaurant. Fantastic friendly service and the food was delicious! Totally recommend (I’d also recommend staying the rooms and location are lovely).
