The long established tradition of Afternoon Tea has been wonderfully preserved at Ashford Castle since 1868 - you’ll notice the original silver tea set displayed in the Connaught Room, which was presented to Lord and Lady Ardilaun to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary in 1896. With spectacular views from the comfort of the castle’s elegant interior, take your time to savour every delicious moment. The Afternoon Tea menu offers guests a wide selection of speciality teas or perhaps a glass of Champagne, delicate finger sandwiches, warm freshly baked scones with lashings of cream and home-made jam, not to mention our tasty pastries. My girlfriend, who loves tea, had made reservations for us to attend this afternoon tea, and I, who generally does not like tea, was genuinely surprised with how pleasant I found the experience. Even as a young couple vacationing on a budget, probably not the typical people to attend an afternoon tea, we felt very welcomed by staff and other patrons alike. Throughout the service, staff was warm and all took part in caring for us, rather than having one particular server for our table. They were knowledgeable about the estate’s history, as well as the food and tea, helping me to find two that I actually enjoyed. The ambiance of the room helped me feel relaxed, and we never felt rushed through our tea. Afterwards, we were even allowed to explore the grounds at our own pace. I definitely recommend this experience to anyone, even those who are skeptical.
