"I always stop in on The Pelican Cafe when in South Beach. It is located in the heart of the famed Ocean Drive facing the ocean. The food is delicious and specialty drinks very tasty. My wife and I dined at the Pelican on April 3, 2012 and thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. A word of caution: the prices are extremely high but it probably competitive with all the other establishments on Ocean. The total for the two of us over $230. We both had an appetizer and a cocktail, but shared an entree. Still, we would do it again because the ambiance and food were worth it."See more

"I've been to Larios three times now when visiting from out of town. I went twice this time just to taste again one of the best Tres Leches that I've ever had en mi vida! (And I've had a lot!) Their menu is full of the required traditional Cuban standards and done well. Tostones Rellenos and the Tamal De Carne De Cerdo are favorite appetizers. The Churrasco A Lo Cubano (skirt steak) is marinated to near perfection and Ropa Vieja bien sabroso. At night the lighting and decor is inviting and vibrant. A bit noisy. Compared with other South Beach shore-side venues it is delightfully a bit more mature. Each member of the wait staff we encountered was personable, friendly and efficient. Prices are reflective of the address but worth it."See more

"Zen Sai is the restaurant of the Essex House hotel in South Beach. The entire staff is attentive, friendly, and enhances the dining experience! We ordered many different dishes - fried bok choy (wow), edamame, garbanzo spring rolls with cilantro curry cream (my favorite discovery), fingerling potatoes, Jalapeno Yellow Tail, grilled organic chicken and ribeye with balsamic teriyaki, chili garlic and serrano vinaigrette sauces. Absolutely everything was delicious. For dessert we had bread pudding, dipped in waffle batter and fried and then served with vanilla ice cream. Overkill? Yes. Could've served 4-6 people. But it was divine!"See more

"This was an unusual experience. And I mean that in a good way. We arrived 25 minutes early for a 10:00 p.m. dinner reservation on a Friday. There is a bit of a gauntlet to run, getting in the door -- security guard on the front steps, hostess-stand blocking the entrance -- but, with reservations, you are shown right in. I sensed no "attitude," only concern for security, which I respect. We were asked to wait in the bar since our table was not ready, which was fine by me. This is a beautiful place. I thought it was worth the price of dinner -- $375 for two people with cocktails for one -- just to see the interior of this historic mansion. I was delighted to see my go-to scotch whisky blend behind Gianni's bar. Good liquor selection, not pretentious. The lounge is very small but nice. In less than 10 minutes, the hostess came to seat us. We were at a very nice table on a covered outdoor terrace. Even on a hot, rainy South Beach night, the fans were sufficient to keep me comfortable, even wearing a blazer. There is a beautiful cat that has the run of the grounds. I'm not a cat person but I thought it was cute. Every single staff person we encountered was just lovely. Warm, kind, service-oriented. They were all just great people who made us feel welcome and at home. The food was very good for what it was, without being a cover story in Bon Appetit magazine. Again, fine by me. I was highly satisfied with both service and food. Truthfully, the worst thing about Gianni's was some of the other diners. What a pretentious bunch of oddballs. You're encouraged to walk around and look at the architecture and interior design, which we loved. But I walked down a stairway to a fountain and had to practically fight my way through three women languishing on the stair railing, making fish lips and doe eyes into their smartphone cameras to post their glamor shots on Facebook. Ugh. That said, I would recommend Gianni's and I'd return when next in South Beach."See more

"Our family ended our four-night stay on Miami's South Beach at A Fish Called Avalon, and as I booked the table quite ahead of time I believe we were given a fantastic table on the street -- a perfect spot for the cat-walking show of Miami Beach (and did I say that my husband and I were with three teenagers, perfect location for their roving eyes and ears!). Anyway, from the first cocktails the adults enjoyed -- try the cucumber one -- to the creme brule and a chocolate cake that got devoured, we had an exceptional meal. We ordered a bottle of wine, really good California "Earthquake," from Lodi I think, but the highlights were the all the fish dishes we ordered (oh and the girls ordered a chicken and also a spaghetti Caprese dishes; the chicken sat atop some smashed sweet potatoes, which rivaled my mashed regular ones under the special Mahi Mahi, ah!!!). There was a crab-crusted grouper, and another fish dish (isn't that why we chose the spot, for the fish?). Backtracking, again, since this review is all over the place, were the appetizers my 17-year-old immediately ordered (since he couldn't order a cocktail, sadly for him...): the escargots arrived elegantly on the appropriate snail plate with those old-school snail tongs, and thankfully three of us got two each, though we wanted more, as they and their accompanying butter slid out of each multi-striped shell; also we devoured the perfectly crispy calamari, as our family never can pass up some fried squid! What else? The atmosphere, outside, with a handsome three-person band nestled on the restaurant's balcony did a non-compete job with the street scene and its unbelievable sounds -- girlfriends hashing the day's events, guys sauntering with their music, the CARS blaring their tunes as well as their motors, and of course, our continued table conversation taking it all in and sharing it with each other -- in between delightful bites of yummy fare from A Fish Called Avalon. We will be back, again!"See more

"I took my daughter and her friend, for a dessert treat. As always, the atmosphere was exciting and fun. It is really the perfect place for fun, family, friends and parties. Unlike some other south beach places, it is also a great place for children and young adults. We had been elsewhere for dinner and the "scene" proved to be a little too "adult" for 14 year old girls."See more

The service was friendly and professional, the food was good and they kept the unlimited margaritas coming. The drag show was very animated and entertaining. Passers by would stop to watch and eventually stepped into the bar to stay for drinks. This place is a definite must see on Ocean Drive if you are in South Beach. I can't wait to get back!"See more

"What a pleasant find in South Beach. Our fish was cooked perfectly and the mushroom saganaki was a real treat. Our waiter could have done a little better job fileting the fish as there were a few too many bones. And of course, parking in South Beach, if not a nightmare is always an adventure."See more

"I've been to Spiga quite a few times and it's been one of my favorites in South Beach. This time I brought out of town guests. When our entrees came, one of the orders was incorrect. They took it back and 3 of us ate while the 4th waited for 15 minutes for the correct order. All the waitress did was tell my friend that there were 2 specials on the menu and the kitchen made the wrong one. How about offering a free glass of wine, or free dessert rather than act like this is a totally acceptable mistake? She was very focused on a table of 14 she was also serving."See more

"We had dinner Friday night. It was quiet (it is September). I started with the braised beef pockets which were very nice. My wife had the white crunchy salad which she too enjoyed. For dinner she had the Seafood Medley which included calamari, scallops, clams and shrimp in a yellow pepper cream sauce. I had the Lobster and Grits which were over the top! It's a unique combination, but it worked very nicely. The service was excellent as such we would highly recommend it. For South Beach, the prices were reasonable give the high quality of the food, the service and the setting."See more

"A perpetual favorite, Toni's Sushi Bar always delivers on all fronts. I have been coming to this South Beach legend for over 15 years and can always count on consistency. The quality and selection of fish is outstanding, the cuts are generous and are prepared with uttermost precision by the venerable sushi chef, Kudo-san, and the service is simply seamless. Toni's Sushi works equally well for a quiet, romantic or a family dinner as well as for a group gathering. I highly recommend this local gem!"See more

"Great find for great organic, locally sourced food that is prepared uniquely. Loved just about everything about this place. It's on the smaller side and from the outside it can be unassuming. The bourbon/whisky(ey) selection is impressive. Definitely try the old fashions. The menu is creative and everything tastes amazing. Regardless of what you are going in for, you need to try the duck fries. Highly recommend this place for a nice dinner or a quick bite with some great drinks. "Although South Beach is perhaps best known for its Cuban-themed food, the best dining experience we had during our 3-day visit was at Babylon Turkish Restaurant. We recommend the Karisik Meze -mixed chef selection appetizer, which had a great combination of 4 small dishes (eggplant, humus, cucumber yogurt, and chopped spiced tomatoes) that were very tasty and not too spicy at all. We also shared a mixed salad and the grilled octopus main course (very tender and lightly seasoned), and the quantity of food was just right for the two of us, while the quality exceeded our expectations. And the service and outdoor setting were excellent, too!"See more

"I went to the original on Espanola Way by accident because our reservation was for the Ocean Drive location. We were seated outside and soaked due to the daily Miami thundershower. They seriously need a new awning that covers all of the tables on the sidewalk. All was well once the home made dishes of chicken, steak and pork arrived. The mojitos and the flan were perfecto. "I was looking for a good, moderately priced restaurant to take a party of 6 women during our stay in South Beach. La Locanda was a perfect choice. The food was great - we had a salad, one pizza, and 3 pasta dishes, as well as the amazing tiramisu - plus drinks, all for under $30 per person. The ambiance was fun and the owner was very attentive and friendly. I highly recommend the homemade pasta purses with pear and 4 cheeses. A very unique combination that was really incredible - our whole table enjoyed it (too rich for one person).
