J. Gilbert’s – Wood Fired Steaks & Seafood - McLean
The head hostess is amazing--the best in the biz. The consistently excellent service and food, without pretense, sets this steakhouse apart.
Apps and sides are amazing and always perfectly cooked. It’s the main course that just OK - the portions always seem small and the steaks are thin. For $50 I want my Filet to look like a baseball not a flank steak. The last 4-5 times it’s been this way. We keep coming back for the poblano pepper potatoes the ahi tuna app.
Aziz was a wonderful waiter
and is a very valuable asset to
Fantastic cornerstone of McLean! Classic steakhouse with great drinks and staple sides! Certainly worth checking out during soft shell season too!
I've always loved Gilbert's, but was surprised at how much the prices have gone up. I'll come back occasionally, but am sorry that it doesn't fit my monthly budget.
Neither the waitress nor the person I assume was the manager (he came around to the table to ask how things were going) knew the items on the special prix fixe Mother’s day menu. Our orders had to be corrected 3 times....this included the main courses and desserts. Our forks were dirty...not had spots dirty but had crusted dried food on them dirty. We had to ask for replacements 3 times. The food, especially the steaks, were average at best. This was our first time at the restaurant, which we chose based on good ratings and reviews, but we will not be returning. For the price, the food and service was not a good value.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Mother's Day Dinner. Two of us had the Mother's Day specials with Filet and Scallops. One chocolate cake and one creme brulee. The third had the strip steak and no dessert.
The wife and I shared a date w another couple for Mother's Day 2019. Our reserved time was 2:45pm and we were seated close enough to that time. I'm not a big fan of buffet and theirs did not do lots to change my opinion. To be fair dinner starts at 4pm so we were close to the service change but some of the food offerings were gone and had to wait for plates. However, the value was good, as a $38 buffet with many offerings is a deal in this area. Perhaps I would return but not on Mother's Day.
The food was incredibly salty and not fresh. It reminded me a lot of a chain buffet restaurant.
The service was exceptional the food was tasty the overall experience was great can't wait to come back
Wonderful assortment. Something for every taste. Pleasant service. Will go again!
My go-to place to take out of town guests and this visit did not disappoint. Great food and atmosphere, drinks and plenty of time to catch up with a friend.
The service was exceptional and the food was cooked with care & warmth.
Excellent menu. The filet mignon was disappointing - not really tender. Service was extremely slow.
Great food! They were so accommodating with changing our reservation time and curteous to us.
Mediocre food, OK service. Would not go back. Parking was easy.
Keith the server was fantastic. Food was fantastic. Noise level was ridiculously high. We could only talk to the person next to you. Management needs to figure this out. Not relaxing.
Mike, our server, was awesome! It was such a good experience. We haven’t been there as a family in a long time, but we will be returning again soon!
Food and service is always superior. It is our go to restaurant when we want a great experience.
Excellent food and service with a great atmosphere for discussion with your dining companions.
Great service. Good range of food, including huge oysters. It would be nice to include poached eggs. The prawns were disappointing; especially when I found that one was raw.
The NY Strip steak and side of onion rings were outstanding. We had a reservation and were therefore seated promptly though the restaurant was getting crowded. Service was good. The meal was pricey but the value is good. The only negative is that the place is noisy.
The food was very good but it was a little expensive. However, I didn't leave hungry and, my wife who is very discerning was very pleased. Touchdown Steelers!
We come here fairly often and they are always accommodating with our preferred seating. Waiters are hit and miss. But I will say the lady we had this time was excellent, I think her name was Maria?, she had dark hair, and was very knowledgeable about wines. She recommended the Conundrum wine for me and her recommendations were spot on. Halibut special was amazing, I hope you keep it in rotation. Please let our server know we really appreciated how good she was. Thanks!
I went to J. Gilbert’s to celebrate my birthday and it was really nice. It was really pleasant and welcoming. I order the Jumbo Crab Cakes with lobster Mac n cheese (delicious) and the cream corn (amazing).
I used the $25 birthday meal certificate that J. Gilbert’s sent me and that was just the icing on the cake🎂
It was was an awesome experience and I would definitely return again. The food 🥘 was absolutely delicious.
Thank you so much for an amazing birthday 🍰 experience
I thought my food was too salty!
While the service was excellent, the place looks and feels old. Our seats the springs were worn out. The food, steaks were ok, we ordered well done, but it felt dried. Overall expensive but didn't have the food or ambiance to support that cost
Awesome meal. I was craving scallops and this in one of the few restaurants around that serve them, in a traditional and terrific manner. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine selection. All in all this was a great experience.
Barbecued ribs and tortilla soup were good. Sirloin steak was exceptionally tough.
This place is okay. We had to wait 20 minutes for a table despite having a reservation. Apart from the steak, portions (sides etc) are pretty small. It is more of a neighborhood place than a special occasion place.
We originally planned to come here for Easter for our second time, but decided to come today. We had an early dinner and it was amazing. I’m not a fan of the bread, but it came out nice and hot.
The crab cake appetizer is delicious. Minimal filling, awesome taste. I also ordered the filet combo with maple shrimp, baked potato and green beans. The shrimp were just ok, but the steak was cooked perfectly. That steak sauce is really something and the perfect addition. The green beans are spectacular and I highly recommend them.
The icing on the carrot cake is better than the cake itself, but really good.
This place is a favorite.
Fabulous, as always. Both my wife and I had steak and loved it.
Excellent food and excellent service. AK provided excellent food service
Excellent steaks, great ambience and very pleasant and efficient service.
Always consistently good for many years!
Just celebrated our wedding anniversary and really enjoyed our meal and the service was outstanding.
Steak cooked to perfection... and excellent service !
This is a place we have met for quite a few years - coming from Maryland and Gainsville! It has always been excellent. This time, your server must be quite new - difficult to understand, asked for our order (although we had already given it to her - about 5 minutes before. Didn't quite seem to understand us. Almost got in the booth next to me and read the entire desert menu to me as if trying to help me make a decision! Didn't offer to pour more wine for us, although we had purchased a bottle. NOT up to J Gilbert's quality of servers.
It was fine nothing extraordinary
