The "off" experience started when I walked in the door. There was no hostess/host standing at the desk because I guess the hostess also works as a server. However, I had to awkwardly stand there for a few minutes while nobody from the bar or other servers alerted someone that I was there and waiting to be seated.
The large table next to us was incredible loud and we couldn't hear each other speak. The server and buss boy came several times to take our plates away but didn't ask if we were actually finished (we had to stop them and ask them to put them back - but they didn't really apologize or bring us back the silverware we needed to continue eating). The calamari we ordered were a bit hard and chewy and didn't taste fresh. The pear salad was good. While duck always has to have fat, the one I ordered made it hard to distinguish between the duck and fat and made eating it harder.
The lighting is do dim that you can't see your food or table that well - the small little fake candle they put on each table is not enough.
This restaurant has definitely gone down since the last time I was there over a year ago.
the food was really great. service good. the only item on the menu that was not great was the smothered french fries, as they were soggy. but the balance was over the top great. I will recommend this place to all I know.
the brunch & dinner menus are amazing, as is the service & ambiance. definitely one of my favorite places to go with friends/family to eat!
Celebrated a birthday brunch here with a group of 8. We were seated promptly, coffee refills w/o needing to ask, yummy food, not too noisy. Great location!
Excellent service and the food was delicious! I highly recommend!
I like this restaurant, have been here a few times. I was a little disappointed this time when nobody came to seat us, and we had to find a host to seat us. Then we were informed that they could only take cash because their system was down.
Worst service ever. Ignored at check-in for 15 minutes. Crowded seating. Never again.
We had a great dinner. Our waitress was terrific. The food was delicious
I am a regular at this restaurant for a long time. The taste is stable. And the price is very reasonable.
Consistently tasty food and friendly service!
Ichabods never disappoints
Perfectly seasoned tuna tartare. Amazing squash dumplings. Tasty salmon. Friendly attentive professional waitstaff.
Amazing food, great service!
Service was fantastic.
Stylish, cool and still cozy. Great music but at a level where you can talk comfortably. Delicious food and great service. We will definitely be going back again.
Food was excellent. Our waiter recommended the squash dumplings for an appetizer and they were yummy. My husband, who is picky, had the chicken and said it was delicious, crispy on the outside moist on the inside. Brussel sprouts with mustard sauce, fantastic. The only negative is that it is next to a concert venue and unfortunately their sound system is such that there is ‘bass’ vibrations that you feel in the restaurant. I would go back if there wasn’t an event planned for the same time!
Arrived on cold windy corner 15 minutes early. Restaurant opens at 5:30. Knocked on window & finally got attention. Pleaded to be allowed to come inside to wait as using cane & having difficulty standing. Was refused. Employee came out from rear entrance & we explained mobility issues & noted cold weather. He returned inside. Another worker finally opened door to let us sit on entry bench to wait. Male customer entered few minutes later, walked right in to bar in spite of admonition that they were not open yet. He was not stopped. Finally seated, ordered drinks. Waited 20 minutes for drinks. Ordered food. Was told one dish required 20 minutes. It took 35 minutes. Food was excellent (chicken, salmon, homemade ice cream) but service irritatingly slow & inattentive. Waitress said they were "short-staffed" but still....Very dark inside. Sudden blasting of "music" highly unpleasant until it returned to prior level. Would give place another chance because food was so good, but service really needs to improve.
Very good across the board for a casual, cozy dinner. Good entrees, good service. The only problem we encountered is that we had fairly late reservations and they decided to close early because it was slow, so we got the whole "order your desert now because the kitchen is closing" and rock music turned up to get us to leave problem. I would go back, just not with a reservation later than 7:30.
Ichabod's was a good option in great location close to Union Square. It was the perfect meeting point for an early Sunday brunch. Party of 2, made a reservation for 11:15. Table was available and I got there a few minutes early. There was a wait by the time we left. Food was good, not great. Ordered avocado toast that was served on toasted white sandwich bread. Banana bread was excellent. Service was fair, maybe they were understaffed? Took a while to get our orders placed and to pay our check because there was 1 server for the whole place. Very cute back room. Would recommend for a convenient option close to Union Square.
This place always serves a fantastic brunch (get the cheddar grits!) -- they always seem understaffed and it's hard to get the wait staff's attention but they're friendly regardless.
Went here for Sunday brunch with some friends visiting from San Francisco. Food was good, but the service was really bad. Maybe they were short staffed or something (certainly seemed that way to us!), but instead of communicating upfront and apologizing, the wait staff were all cranky and rude.
- My friend asked for water without ice, our server said "I'll try, but this [jug he was carrying] has ice" and basically proceeded to pour her cold water with ice
- Plates were slammed on the table
- One of our 4 coffee cups was dirty (with lipstick marks on it) and when we pointed it out to our server, he merely said "oh, that's easily fixed" and then proceeded to replace the cup; meanwhile he had stopped midway filling my cup of coffee and we had to call him back again so that he could fill it.
- We asked for hot sauce and reminded the staff 2-3 times, but never actually got it.
It clearly wasn't just us having these issues. A family at the next table had repeatedly asked for coffee and been trying to get the wait staff's attention for 10-15 minutes. One of them finally got up and went and got the jug of coffee himself. Of course, when the server saw that, he went up but instead of apologizing to the family, spoke to them very sharply.
All in all, the food is good and the place is nice, but the poor service really subtracted from the entire experience. I really do think the staff was just overworked though, so hopefully we'll have a better experience in the future!
Delicious. Great menu choices. Very sweet and competent server and host. A bit crowded and noisy — but the drinks and food are so good it’s worth it.
The food was lovely, especially the Brussels sprouts and chicken dish. Also loved the ice cream confection in the mason jar. My only complaint was that the tables are a bit cramped. I will be back though, because the food is good and I live nearby!
This place has a pretty good happy hour for drinks but the food is fairly expensive for a small amount. That being said, the squash dumplings are some of the best things I’ve ever eaten so I’ll pay for them again and again.
Though the food was delicious, our waiter was not attentive at all. We asked for a few things but never got them. Had to ask other waiters. It is so disappointing when this happens because it sets the tone for the entire meal experience.
I will not return unfortunately.
This is a fun venue with good small plates to share. The concert venue next door sometimes bleeds through the walls with a loud bass line but we could still talk and socialize.
Food and service were outstanding. Menu not huge but has enough variety to please everyone.
Our table was a bit cramped until a huge party next to us left.
The noise level was very high so if you want to have a quiet or in- depth conversation, this is not the place.
If that’s not a priority, I recommend it highly. Will return.
Loved the food! Tuna tartar was the best I’ve ever eaten. Burgers were amazing, too.
Service was friendly but a bit slow. Food was very good. The noise level was outrageous
Been here a number of times, usually each time with someone new, and it never disappoints me or them. I've converted a handful of people into huge fans.
I went with a few friends before going to a show. I picked this place because of the reviews and it was conveniently located. I looked like a hero!
Everything was delicious! The pumpkin dumplings did not disappoint. The brussel sprouts were outrageous!
The decor was warm and inviting. Our waitress was attentive but not fussy.
This is the first time I came here and was seated in the back...it was extremely noisy with waiters and people bustling back and forth through the bathroom and kitchen. I think the tables in the middle section in the back should be removed because while the food was delicious, having our table jostling around was not a good experience. I had the toast over eggs and it came burned.
Perfect winter spot for delicious comfort food. Hearty dishes that hit the spot. The squash dumplings, chicken and ice cream Sunday were particularly amazing. Very speedy service too!
Great food. Friendly staff. Loved the vibe. Will definitely go back.
We had a lovey time. Food was comforting. Service was friendly, but inconsistent. There was a party or high school girls who were...loud. But overall a lovely time.
Was happy with this restaurant and the food it had to offer. The only down side was the acoustics that came from the theater next door. Not the restaurant's fault, but they said the theater got a new sound system and the bass was loud and beating loudly throughout the night.
Food is consistently awesome. Romantic ambiance, perfect for a date but also a great gathering spot for friends. Don't miss the squash dumplings
The new host was just terrific and made great accommodations for my party of three
