Friend of a Farmer
Lunch: Monday - Friday 11:30am - 4:00pm
Dinner Served Every Night: 5pm-10pm
Cute inside. Like an old farmhouse. Food was great. Shephard’s Pie was fantastic. Waiter was not the best.
Excellent food and ambiance in 19h century building. Loved it.
Went for breakfast and the food took a very long time to be prepared. By the time I received it, it was lukewarm/almost cold.
Great service and food! The seating in the room that we were in was very tight.
THEY NEED TO ACCEPT AMEX
Had a great experience. Service was very good. The bar was also friend and good
It’s very warm in the upstairs dining room. Also - they don’t accept Amex 😡 which is irritating for a business traveler.
This is my go to place for easy Union Square comfort food, today I had the crab cakes with a side of fries, I can also vouch for the Shepherds Pie and the omelettes, which are fantastic. I’ve never regretted a choice here. The upstairs dining room is cozy and unassuming and service is attentive but not fussy.
Not sure about dinner, but I’ve seen people turned away at lunch without a reservation.
Good food! Service was great. Warm ambiance. Recommend.
It was just a great all around experience. The food was so delicious and the price was so responsible for such high quality food. Our waiter was also very helpful/nice. Thank you!!
Great time! I always come here when my mom visits me and we love the menu and ambiance. Only complaint was the INSANELY loud table behind us. Literally screaming at each other. Could tell the wait staff noticed. Might have been nice if they said something to them.
The waiter was great, very attentive. It was very loud, couldn’t hear our conversation because of larger parties being super close to our table. Cute atmosphere, VERY cozy. Mothers burger was great, my steak was nothing special.
Fabulous food, service and just lovely to sit down and relax away from the busy streets, everything was wonderful will definitely be back if I return to New York.
Incredible service and food and ambiance. Loved it !
This is one of the restaurants that we keep coming back since the food is absolutely delicious, the deserts are amazing and the staff is very friendly.
Overall, great experience . The restaurant is larger than I expected but cozy. I would go as far as to say slightly crammed but we did not mind. We ordered a bottle of wine which was delicious though they were out of our initial selection. The portions for dinner are sizeable. We enjoyed duck and steak with a side of Brussels sprouts. I would dine here again with a friend or date. Not great for groups.
Pasta cold. Service eager but unpolished. Tables crammed in tight spaces, barely room to push chair. Restroom location particularly awkward. Needs updating, redesign.
Very poor service, food wasn’t hot, felt rushed
We loved having dinner for special occasions at the Brooklyn Heights location and were sad when it closed. Was an amazing experience dining at the original location. The drinks are delicious. Love the fried oyster app! We got the duck duet, mussels and scallops. A really wonderful night with attentive, polite and gracious servers.
The salmon, mussels and brussel sprouts were all fantastic! Thanks, Louis!
Perfect date restaurant
The service was amazing! Braeson? was our server and he was amazing! Food was hot and delicious! Chicken pot pie was out of this world! The cornbread with apples on top started the dining experience! Ended with a delicious pumpkin cheesecake! We will be back!
Our waiter was very accomodating and friendly, the food was as always amazing and the place is super cozy for brunch, lunch, coffee or possibly also dinner (havent been for dinner).
Had a lovely date! Friendly staff, good food, and cozy ambiance. Just a few blocks from Irving Plaza.
Delish food and super service, such a neighbourhood gem, you will be happy you tried it!
Wonderful food. Terrible service. The waiter asked me for a better tip, although he didn’t deserve one. Does not take American Express credit cards.
We had a very pleasant experience at this neighborhood gem. In particular our waiter, Breson, was excellent. We were celebrating the birthday of an 83 year old woman and he went out of his way to make it a special night for her. The cocktails were very good and reasonably priced. I had the chicken pot pie (which they are known for) and it was hot and delicious. Their other speciality is shepard's pie, both real "comfort foods" which are nice for a change. Not "fine dining" but very enjoyable. It was my first time there and I will definitely return.
My mom and I came here before seeing a show later that night. Every inch of the space is utilized and easily makes you forget you are in NYC. Tabling is tight, we were able to make it work but it was definitely a squeeze. Our waiter never introduced himself and was very attentive in the beginning of the evening but disappeared when we were looking to leave to get uptown. I would definitely recommend again, but maybe not if you have time sensitive plans following your meal.
Food was good, but kitchen was backed up and took us over an hour to receive our entrees
Best food in the city! A must visit for all who live in NYC and those visiting!
We previously have enjoyed brunches at Friend of the Farmer; there can be long lines to be seated as they don't take brunch reservations, but it is worth the wait. However, this was the first time we had dinner here and weren't sure what to expect, but we were pleased with the result. Soon after we were seated, we were served warm cornbread topped with apple butter. Delicious! Everyone in our party of six enjoyed the dishes we ordered, ranging from steamed mussels appetizers to mains of braised beef short ribs, grilled salmon, sautéed scallops, salads and an interesting vegetarian dish of zucchini pasta. Desserts were also excellent. My favorite was the apple pie for two which came hot from the oven topped with vanilla ice cream. Others enjoyed an ice cream sandwich on house-baked banana bread and a flourless chocolate soufflé. Service was friendly and competent. The atmosphere is quite informal and plain, rather like a farmhouse, which I guess is appropriate for a farm-to-table restaurant, but the rather odd music that was piped in did not fit into that ambience.
Very warm place that serves amazing local food. Perfect for breakfast and brunch.
Made the reservation here because everyone in the group had different dietary needs and the menu had something for everyone. The chicken pot pie was great as was the sheppard's pie. Great avocado tartare and the burger next to me looked great. We were at a round table in the back on the second floor. It was hot and noisy but fun and spirited.
Restaurant is really cozy. Staff was excellent!
Food is high quality and well done. Solid casual spot. Would go again!
Very cozy converted house! Had a delicious chicken pot pie and apple pie, all the while seated next to a fireplace on a chilly Fall evening. Very happy with my experience here overall!
Very uncomfortable, rickety old seats that feel like they might break and heavy cement tables that don’t move - no where to move - the staff can’t move either so they are cranky. It was unpleasant, cramped, hot - it actually reminded me of a stalled subway.
Waited 30 minutes for the wrong order, and another 20 mins for the correction.
Solid breakfast food and quick service and noninvasive service. good times!
