You need to do something about the mosquitoes on the patio. Invest the money and have it sprayed.
It was awesome!
Nice ambience, good food, but felt rushed through
Warm setting, lively vibe, great service and food.
Delicious meal. We love eating here! The service is excellent and the quality of the ingredients are amazing.
This is a must try restaurant whether it’s your first time visiting DC or if you’re a local looking for a great Italian meal.
The shrimp and black gnocchi appetizer and the lasagna are two of my favorites!
Hadn't been to Floriana in a few years, and it was even better than I'd remembered. The Ahi Tuna was exceptional. Everyone in our party really enjoyed their appetizers: Burrata, Chilled Melon Soup, and the Black Gnocchi. Honestly, can't think of a single dish we ordered that didn't wow us.
Only issue was that the space is a bit loud, and also can get quite hot inside (they claimed that the AC was on, and the fans were going, but it was still pretty uncomfortable).
Would definitely go back in the future.
The place was fine but not what we were expecting. The food was average to mediocre.
Great food and service. 1/2 price wine nights are great value.
Excellent pasta dishes and appetizers. My branzino was over cooked. Decent service but could have certainly been more attentive.
Authentic Italian food well prepared and nicely served
Food was excellent. Pasta was fresh. Quiet restaurant. We would recommend and return again.
Haven't been to Floriana in years and decided to check it out again. Overall the food was ok. The Caesar salad was very small for $11. We had the Maryland Crab Ravioli and the Duck Carbonara both of which were good but nothing outstanding.
Wine was half off bottles, regular Sunday night special which was nice.
I would highly recommend not sitting outside as we got eaten alive by mosquitoes. They have a nice patio but really need to do something and treat for mosquitoes. They had a can of spray so they clearly know it's an issue and they even brought a candle but it did nothing (not sure it was even citronella.)
1. Beware of the check. I didn’t look carefully at it. Later I realized that they had grossly overcharged me. Too late to fix that. It is possible that they, as some other restaurants in DC, have the practice of adding an 18% charge for service. As I overlooked the details of the check I automatically added another 15%.
2. It is likely that they changed chef. The shrimp and scallop Rissotto was bad, but my wife did not want to spoil the moment returning it to the kitchen. The calamari were also poorly done and my ravioli were not al dente but rather overlooked.
We are truly disappointed.
I enjoyed lasagne however it was too hot to eat for at least 5 minutes. Sunday gravy dish was good with a spicy finish. Pesto & bread were delicious. Wait staff were helpful and attentive.
I've had many dinners at Floriana, but have never had lunch...which was a mistake. The lunch deal, where you get both an appetizer and an entree for $20 is the best deal I've had in a very long time. The servings are full servings, no skimping whatsoever on the portions. The server was always available when he was needed, but not hovering. We ate outside and it was gorgeous and fun. Anyone looking for a business lunch or just a lovely, delicious meal so definitely make plans to go to Floriana--soon!
We often go to Floriana's and always have a fun time, good food and wine and very friendly service. We know we are going to have a nice evening when we go there.
The food here is absolutely amazing. I will keep coming back. Thus far, the scallop and shrimp risotto is my favorite. They have a nice rosé, as well.
Our waiter Michael is a fabulous addition to the good food and he makes great wine recommendations. Definitely a good value and worth the trip! Love Folorianas
Great location, variety of menu, wait staff and great wine choices!
Very nice ambiance, not too terribly loud, very, very good food, but a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Took my girlfriend on a date here, and it was outstanding, but be prepared to have ~100$ to spend on it. We ordered the more expensive stuff as well, so the price can be below that. Either way, an outstanding place.
Excellent food and service. We dined outside on their awesome terrace. Linguine Melanzane was just perfect. Amazing restaurant.
We discovered Floriana's a few years ago and have been back numerous times! Service is always attentive! The food never disappoints! We usually visit in nice weather and sit outside and it is lovely! They run some pretty amazing discounts at times. Like this time there was a festival on 17th Street so they sold gift cards to be valued at twice what you pay! And, you could use them that night!!! What a nice surprise! They have half price bottles of wine on Sundays and Mondays. Anyway, most important, the lasagna is amazing! We've had it so many times and just keep ordering it. Scallops and shrimp risotto are delicious too. Montpelier Manhattan was quite yummy!! Desserts are all good. Can't remember all we've had over the years but I do remember everything was quite good! Definitely give it a try!
The pasta was fresh and excellent. The scallops were perfect. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was really Smokey and tasty.
I think I should stick to the standard pastas here. The black gnocchi were so immersed in shrimp and sausage that I had to hunt to find the pieces of gnocchi I had selected it for; and the branzino was a nondescript set of grilled filets with little character—although fresh and tender.
Tuscan red wine we ordered was excellent and reasonably priced, and the service superb. I love the simple, semi-rustic setting. My fourth time here, and I’ll keep coming back, but I was underwhelmed this time,
Outstanding experience from start to finish! Service was attentive and food was amazing!! A++++++++
Taking a colleague out for their last night in DC.
Very quiet and rustic. Allowed me to have a meaningful date night with my significant other. Experienced a slight I convenience with my original table and was moved right away. Very delicious food and a better experience.
In celebrating the final night of Restaurant Week in Washington, DC this was a most excellent choice. Our food and drink (specialty cocktails) were divine and service was impeccable! I will definitely eat here again and recommend this place for fine Italian dining whole-heartedly! I will come again!
We went there for restaurant week and had a pleasant experience. While the service was not the best because they were too busy, they were still trying to be nice. The appetizers were really bland and disappointing. We ordered fried calamari and black gnocchi. However, surprisingly, the entrees, were very good. My boyfriend had a rib eye which was very soft, juicy and tender, and I had the mushroom risotto which was also very creamy and tasty. The desserts were awful, though. Very nice ambience for a winter date. Cheap prices.
Food was truly excellent — I had the melon soup and the tuna; both preparations were really innovative and delicious. (Portions were just on the verge of too large ... but that’s not a complaint!) The berry cobbler was less impressive: would have been better served warm, crust was really thick and hard/dense, and I’d prefer more fruit than crust, regardless. That said, that apps and entrees more than compensated. The low point was service. Astonishingly slow — especially to take our order and bring the appetizers, then silverware, and the check at the end. Plus, the server forgot my wine altogether. (Luckily, one guy was more on the ball than our server and pinch-hit.) In terms of ambience: patio is lovely (but perhaps spray for mozzies if not wearing long pants); inside is charming, but gets really loud.
Dishes lack the desire to travel out of our circle. Server is excellent— we didn’t hear the “I like” phrase that takes restraint to not answer—
Appetisers were great (mussels and calamari) were very good. The main coarse was served only warm as if it had spent too much time waiting. The sauce for the filet mignon was not very imaginative.
Went for restaurant week! Really enjoyed the burrata with peaches and the butternut squash tortellini.
The night started off great but did not end well. The staff was very friendly when we arrived, walking us over to our table and wishing my boyfriend a Happy birthday. They were able to accommodate my requests (window seating and a special print out menu).
Our waiter arrived to our table about 10 minutes after we were seated, which is when we put in our drink order. It was another 10-12 minutes until we were actually served our drinks. My partner and I noticed that we did not get the bread and spread that was on everyone else's table, but we did not want to seem confrontational and did not mention anything and instead ordered Bruschetta off of the menu. After what seemed like another 10-15 minutes, we finally placed our meal orders. Our meal did not arrive for another 40 minutes. I watched a table to my left be seated, served, and finish their meals before our food arrived. Worried that were would miss our show, I kindly asked the waiter how much longer did he think it would be, he never returned to our table and the food arrived about 15 minutes after I approached him.
Now, the meal was not what I expected either. For having to wait almost an hour and a half to eat, my food was lukewarm to say the least. I chose Floriana because I read wonderful reviews about serving sizes and quality. I was very unhappy with both serving size and quality of my meal. When our waiter came over to check on us, I asked for the check. Unfortunately, we were unable to stay for dessert but they gave us a nice card wishing my partner Happy Birthday.
Overall, It was not an amazing experience. I tried to be understanding of the fact that our waiter was training someone, but to wait that long to eat food that was not hot, to be left waiting when I asked how much longer we would have to wait, and to wait that long to be served something so skimp was extremely disappointing.
Very good food and service in a quaint setting.
My office building uses Floriana quite a bit especially for larger groups. They are always so accomodating and the service is excellent. The fixed lunch is a great deal and I would highly recommend it.
The food was fabulous! Everything we ate was cooked to perfection with wonderfully balanced flavors. Our waiter Marco was wonderful as well adding to to the experience! He was attentive, personable, professional! Marco went the extra mile to ensure we had a great experience.
The shrimp and scallop risotto was perfect! The cold melon soup and corn salad were delicious.
Great food and excellent service. Nice wine list too at good price points.
Very dark. Could hardly see the food in the dark. We should have sat outside where it was very well lit. I got the lobster with black squid ink pasta. Pasta was pasty and stuck together. Way over priced for the quantity of lobster in the dish. Service was great. Staff very attentive.
