The word “moona” or “mouneh” in slang comes from the Arabic word mana or ma'oona, meaning "storing." In other words, it’s the English equivalent of "the pantry". In the past, especially in remote villages in the Arab World, the moona was prepared during the bountiful harvest for consumption during winter's harsh days, providing fundamental nourishment for the daily meal, having transformed perishable produce into food with a long shelf life: foods such as olives, pickles, preserved lemons, cheese, spices, herbs, jams, etc.

Al Wadi Restaurant will be closed from July 3rd re-opening July 18th for our annual vacation. We apologize for any inconvenience. Al Wadi Boston is a Lebanese restaurant providing the West Roxbury area a unique ethnic food experience. Dinner at Al Wadi Boston can be a thoroughly enjoyable feast with the Mezza variety vegetarian and meat options that both include an amazing array of house specialties and chef selected favorites. Dinner offerings include beef and lamb kebabs, eggplant moussaka and a vegetarian platter. A special delicacy is the pumpkin kibbeh which features two pumpkin puree layers along with spinach, chick peas and onions. Be sure to save room for one of the Al Wadi Boston special desserts including the knefe with its sweet cheese, semolina crust and syrup made from rose water.

Moona or Mouneh, slang for the Arabic word meaning “storing” or “pantry". ‍Here at Moona, we believe in letting the pantry speak for itself: the spices, olive oils, tahini, molasses, house-pickled vegetables, olives, and more. Our food is an expression of love of the neighborhood pantry that provides the basis of our exceptional, Middle Eastern mezze style menu, featuring traditional dishes with our own Moona personal stamp. We encourage our guests to break bread, be mindful, and share in the dining experience sensorily together. Let us welcome you into our Mouneh and express our passion for neighborhood casual fine dining hospitality.

The food was exceptional! The hummus with lamb is a must-order! And you must try the Saved By The Bell cocktail -- I'll be going back just for that. Our server Katya was fantastic -- in fact the entire staff from hosts to servers were so kind and friendly and really made our experience. The atmosphere / decor is lovely and the location is really great as well (a short walk from the central square red line T stop).

Everything we tried was fabulous! Everyone at the table ordered different drinks and from mocktail to wine to regular cocktails, we were all happy customers! The feta fritters are a stand out as well as the chicken thigh dish!

Everything about this meal was outstanding! The service was attentive and friendly. Having flagged this as a birthday celebration, our table was tastefully decorated for the occasion, and they noted it throughout, without creating a big loud deal out of it. And the food was really excellent -- from the spiced pita chips and Lebanese wine to the bakhlava for dessert. Each dish was tasty, hot, fresh, and nicely presented. So glad we have a Lebanese community in our neighborhood, and here's hoping that the rest of us support them!
