Loved brunch! Great food and fun atmosphere!
The waffles are definitely not Belgian. Nor were the fries. That was disappointing. Otherwise had a great time there. (If anyone knows a place in NYC where I can get real Belgian waffles or fries please let me know :)
Simply one if my favorite restaurants in the city, always a good experience. Consistently good food and friendly service.
Mussles & frites were amazing as expected. Pasta was bland. Soup was delicious. Wait staff was rude when asked for basic things like more water or a new plate.
I was searching on line for a restaurant near Madison Square Park, where we were meeting our son, and came across BXL Zoute. I've been to Belgium several times and was intrigued by both the comments from previous diners and the menu. We were made to feel welcome as soon as we entered. The food was delicious! My husband had two of the specials; squash & carrot soup and rabbit stew. He's not a big eater but he practically inhaled both! My son had crab cakes (special that day) and moules frites mariniere and I had bitterballen and bouchee a la reine. Everything was excellent and frites and bitterballen were not greasy the way they can be in some places. We were really too stuffed for dessert but couldn't resist the gauffre with ice cream and berries. Yum! If you're a beer lover they have over a dozen Belgian beers on tap.
Will Return 🤗
My go to neighborhood gem. Food and staff are amazing!
Excellent food, great preparation, very tasty. Narrow room, bar on one side, tables on opposite side. Attentive service but tables are a little too close to each other.
Charming atmosphere and delicious food. My out of town guests thought it was a "find". Want to come back for the all you can eat muscles.
I had to try the moules and frites and was not disappointed... exceptionally good. My only mildly negative comment, and I can't really call it negative was regarding my wife's dish. The heat level in the Sandwich Merguez was a little over the top for her and she likes spicy food. Possibly, it should be noted on the menu that it's spicy. All in all, we enjoyed the meal.
overall very good, great atmosphere, great food, etc... but expensive...
Nice, fun, Belgian bistro with good food. I've had better mussels, but the portions were generous and prices were very reasonable for Manhattan. Nice service.
Some of the items were exceptional, such as the “Croque BXL” and a chicken dish in a nice cream sauce with puff pastry. The French fries were excellent but the hamburger was almost burned. Service was very pleasant and super efficient. It was extremely noisy, so don’t expect to have much of a conversation.
Our first visit to BXL Zoute won't be our last. Although "energetic" crowd made conversation difficult, the food (moules frites) was fine, the service quick and pleasant, and the prices reasonable.
Food was good and reasonably priced. However, The service was so slow we have ask for menu and to have the order taken. The proprietor explained that one of the server called in sick. It still did not excuse the rudeness of a bus boy, when we ask about bottle water. He got impatient and just walked away! The proprietor was actually friendly and compensated by giving us free desserts and coffee. Perhaps we should have gone there on a week day when they can handle the service better.
I'd gone a couple of weeks ago on a Friday night and had a great experience: not too loud, very friendly and attentive waiter and everyone enjoyed the food. Kind of had the opposite experience the other night. We never really had a waiter. It seemed like the manager was coming over now and then to our table. There was a long wait to order, they brought the entrees while we were still finishing the salad, my friend said the vegetables in his pasta weren't cut up and we had to flag down someone else to get our check.
I would go back because I like the food and the place has charm. But they need to work on their service.
I'm a belgian expat having called NYC home for 25 years gone West 10 years ago and in town for a few days. Looked really forward exploring some Belgian dishes I don't prepare home due to their complexity or simply impossible to find the ingredients like north sea shrimps. First BIG shock were the Belgian restaurants that were culinary institutions in NYC GONE. Here comes BXL Zoute in the picture. In one word: disappointed. It's more bar food than restaurant fare. I walked away with the satisfaction of a fix having been gathered to but still searching for that special place providing a true Belgian culinary experience. Will not go back to BXL Zoute.
Great place to get your Belgian/French cuisine fix!
While visiting New York, I just had to come and try this place out. The restaurant is located in a pretty quiet street and it is quaintly decorated with lots of Belgian accents.
The menu consists of a mix of Belgian and French options, such as onion soup, different styles of mussels, steak, croques, etc. The dessert menu has chocolate mousse, Brussels waffle, dame blanche,.. They also have a separate menu with a great beer selection.
We enjoyed all of our dishes and would definitely recommend a visit if you are looking for authentic food!
We had their Thai mussels and their rib-eye steak. Both entrees arrived hot and tasted good but didn't leave a lasting impression for a returned visit. I would return because of the convenient location to the movie theatre.
We had a great time at the restaurant, got a real European feel (with some insouciance thrown in). Beer was lovely, mussels galore. We'd go again
Burger was very dry, bun wasn’t fresh. Steak and fries were good though. Great quick service, reasonable prices, cute restaurant.
I am a frequent diner at BXL Zoute. When I find a good place I stick with it. Go! You'll love it!
My third visit over the years. I just love the Belgian feel, the great variety of Belgian beer, and most of all, the Mussels. Tables are NYC small, but the service is great and it is very affordable!
Good crowd, great beers, Best staff, best veal chop in the city.
Charming overall - staff friendly and knowledgable. Great prix fixed lunch and all food was delicious.
Great beer, great pork ribeye, great staf, great atmosphere.
The famous moules frites were disappointing. The cooking on the mussels was fine but the quality of the mussels were terrible. It would have been better if they simply did not serve them that day if they didn’t get good ones. The fries were limp and not even close to what I would get in Belgium. My friend liked them though. Also the football match on multiple TVs were distracting. It maybe be appealing to some but not for someone looking for a quiet lunch with a friend. On the plus side, the waitstaff were all very nice and the prices were reasonable.
Superb! They offer creative choices -- and very authentic Belgian fare. Their frites are to die for! And for dessert, don't skip Les Gaufres. Merveilleuse!
A lovely restaurant with good food and fine service. The best roast chicken I ever ate!
It was 12 of us for a surprise b-day diner. They were lovely. The food was great. Will definetely ba back.
Great beer selection and draught quality focuses on Belgian styles. Love that everything is served in the proper glass.
Mussels were so small no genuine Belgian restaurant would ever serve those to customers
Love this restaurant! The food, service, and atmosphere was amazing! My friends and I had a great time catching up and noshing on yummy eats. Looking forward to coming back again. Thank you BXL Zoute team for making our dining experience a great one! See you soon!
Love BXL so much and happy to have an office close by again. I used to work around the corner from the one in Midtown East and it was a go-to spot for lunch or happy hour or dinner.
Me and my friend came to BXL for the Dutch Frikandel who was on the menu online. When we wanted to order they told us they had no Frikandel though, we were very dissapointed.
We come here often because it’s an oasis in the city! This Saturday we had brunch outside on the patio and had a great waitress Jill from Ireland. Everything is delicious especially the mussels! You won’t be disappointed.
Great little bistro, the Thai muscles were to die for!
Lovely restaurant. Came with a big group, got a nice (quieter) table in the back. Plenty of space to accommodate a group of 12. Great Belgian beers, mussels were on point.
Despite the excellent food, we'll never return. Walking inside, the noise is deafening...excessively loud music & extremely loud patrons.
