Blue Duck Tavern
Wow, so server was great, HOWEVER, for a Michelin or not, the timing was terrible. The food was tasty, although in their rush the steak was not cooked to order. We were not even able to finish a drink or enjoy a breather when the main course appeared .
It took longer for the General Manager, that we asked to come by, longer to show up than our dinner
They were not busy or over booked so we were not lingering.
This should have been a great experience, instead it was rushed and not a pleasant experience at the end
Excellent waiter. Made good food suggestion. Recommend: oysters, duck and scallops. Delicious.
Server was extremely helpful & accommodating for a party member who had an allergy.
The food was amazing.
Food was wonderfully organic. Fresh squeezed orange juice and great coffee. Many items made from scratch. The chicken and waffles are a home run!
We had a just fine experience at Blue Duck Tavern. For a Michelin Star restaurant and matching price tag, however, we expect much more. The overall customer experience left much to be desired - despite having a reservation and the restaurant being empty, we were kept waiting until exactly 5:30pm, and then escorted to our table after several other parties who had also arrived a bit before opening time. Nobody offered to take our coat, or to arrange our chairs for us. The server was overly fussy and chatty with us, when we would have preferred being left alone, but then not there when we needed something or had questions. The wine list by the glass was limited (ok, we get it, you want us to buy a bottle.... but we had a show at the Kennedy and were not interested in being buzzed theater attendants). The food was just ok, with the delicate bone marrow over-powered by the acidic vinaigrette sauce and the spiced halibut lacking any complexity or layering. The duck was good, but also lacked complexity. The best part was the champagne, were it not for the fact that the waiter asked to see our ID (we are in our thirties and it shows). Quite disappointed overall by the experience as we had high expectations for a the Michelin Star rating.
Deserving of its Michelin star. Waiter was knew the menu very well. Foie de Gras was superb.
The kitchen staff was awesome.
My colleague had the duck confit which he said was fantastic. I had the cheeseburger which was excellent. However the fries were sub-par. They were only warm when served. Not what I expected from BDT.
Our waiter, David was phenomenal. He was knowledgeable and we never had to ask for anything. The food was outstanding!
Great food...great service!!!
I hosted a small Birthday Brunch for my family and while the food was very good, the service was extraordinarily poor. We were seated after waiting 15 minutes past our reservation time and then waited 30 minutes to have someone take our drink order, 15 minutes for the drinks (not all of them arrived at the same time) and another 20 minutes for them to take our food order. Pretty much ignored us the entire time except the water service was decent. We enjoyed our time talking with each other and were not in a hurry, but being ignored never creates a nice dining experience. The food came quickly so this is definitely not a kitchen issue. I will not return because I can find equal or better less expensive places to dine where the staff actually seems grateful and happy that you are dining with them. You would think after losing a star you would step it up.
Tasty roast garlic was missing from table. It was replaced by very sore stuff and made me uncomfortable. Had to drink more water to wash out.
we came early. I thought we were walking through the kitchen, but it's how the rest is set up. Same path to restrooms. Slow to be greeted. long wait 4 food when Maitre D explained. He comped us grits and took one item off bill. Staff in this rest need to put clients first. Woman who seated us wouldn,t let my elderly husband sit in a comfy chair while our table was set. I toured a king room with Hotel staff that were.most gracious. The waitress we had at the duck was excellent. Place needs some help and it's not a ,tavern. look at all. good food helps. Sorry the whole experiencew wasn,t good.
Blue Duck is one of the best restaurants in Washington, DC. It is unique, beautiful, the food is
excellent and it is excellent in service as well. Our waiter, Armando, was superior, always asking
what we wanted, if we were okay, knew when to approach us with questions ...did not bother us..
knew the distance was important...but a perfect lunch yesterday! Perfect location for me as I
live very, very close by.
Best meal I’ve had in a long time!!
We try to go to BDT for special occasions and we always leave impressed. David G always treats us like royalty and the service there is impeccable. Overall everything was great. The duck confit I had was a little dry but still enjoyable. Because I was there for my birthday I wanted to indulge in a dessert and I did not find the expected desserts I’ve enjoyed in the past. The A/C was also very high and it was extremely cold even though I had dressed in long sleeves due to the cooling of the weather that evening.
Overall no complaints just sharing some small adjustments.
Food was uninspired, tasteless, and poorly prepared.
Unusual menu clearly limited for diners with food allergies. The short rib was awesome but the halibut accompaniment was too salty to eat. Each of the desserts were excellent.
The server Michael was the best server we have ever had at the hundreds of restaurants at which we have dined. He is the restaurant’s greatest asset
Delicious food, excellent service, relaxing and quiet atmosphere...would definitely go back.
I very much enjoyed my recent lunch at Blue Duck. Had the scallops. They were excellent. Friend had a Reuben, and it looked amazing. Service was flawless.
The staff went extra to make sure our first wedding anniversary was special!
Not what we expect from a highly rated restaurant. Food is average. Service is average. We’ve had MUCH better food for comparable prices. Overall experience is marginal to somehow disappointing
We always try to book a table at Blue Duck when we are in town for a long weekend, and we have never been disappointed. For those who have not had the pleasure of dining at Blue Duck, I would advise saving room for dessert! That will be difficult, but you must try!
My family had a great dinner eating outside at the Blu Duck Tavern. The ambience was great and so were the staff. Be prepared - the portions are very large.
It was my first time seating in this room, right to the entrance. The food and cooking smells were not pleasant. It’s way too dark and noisy for a friend get together. It was not pleasant.
Pre-ordered a whole duck as I was strongly recommended to try it. Yes, the texture of the meat is amazing, but overall the Duck feels very very over salted. We had to drink glasses of water to ease the saltiness.
Everything was great. Expect to pay a lot
Service wasn’t great. Took a long time to order after we said we were ready. Waiter just walked off when we said that and came back a long time later when we finally flagged another waiter for help.
We picked Blue Duck Tavern because it had received a Michelin star and we wanted something special with good food and wine to celebrate a birthday and an anniversary. I called ahead of time to tell them. The five of us were greeted warmly as we arrived separately by the parking valet, the receptionist and the waiter. They were very accommodating as we settled in. They even brought the house champagne, as asked, just as we arrived, right on cue. The waiter was awesome. They had printed up Happy Birthday (+ name) on the top of all the menus which was a very nice touch. We ordered several plates to share for dinner which were creative and excellent and the service very attentive. We ordered a single apple pie a la mode for dessert. They brought the apple pie and treated us to 4 separate dishes of ice cream and had written on the side of one plate: 'Happy Birthday' for the birthday person and 'Happy Anniversary' on two plates for the anniversary couple. So sweet of them to do so. They also had the chef, waiter, etc. sign the menus. Amazing. We felt very honored.
With the very attentive service, the special touches for the birthday and anniversary and the outstanding food, we felt like it was a perfect choice for us and a very special evening. Hard to beat that! Thank you Blue Duck Tavern.
Food was decent, crab cake and grits were great. Major points docked because we didn’t get service after being seated for about 8 minutes even for water. For a Michelin starred restaurant all cylinders need to be firing and this just wasn’t.
Staff was happy to accommodate whatever seating we wanted, after didn’t want first table. Delicious country Benedict. Nice chat w/asst mgr, Nick - who was very friendly & helpful. Exactly what you want in a manager. Very professional service also f/Yves. Hope to return on future visit for that duck confit.
Have never seen just one waffle served. So skimpy especially for the cost. We both had the waffles and were hungry again in 3 hours.
It was the best eating experience of the trip. I will definitely go back next trip to DC.
The food at BDT is to die for - the service, not so much. Get the sticky buns, but don’t expect to have your water refilled.
The food was fine but didn’t have the “wow” factor that I expect from a Michelin rated restaurant. The wait for drinks was consistently long.
My husband and I took our son here during George Washington University’s parents weekend. We were hoping for a delicious meal with service that would not make us feel rushed. Our expectations were exceeded! The food was delicious, or service was perfect, and we were able to enjoy a long evening of conversation and good food with our boy!
Excellent food with exceptional service
The food was amazing!!!
