Don’t offer a set menu if you don’t want to serve it!
The minute we asked for the set menu as per our booking the service disappeared.
The menus were hidden somewhere took a lot of effort to get them out of the cupboard!
We waited ages to be offered drinks - had to ask in the end.
Waiter could not remember our order - only had 4 guests to remember from a set menu - choice of 3 options
when food arrived had to ask who had what??
This is an empty restaurant on a Monday night
shame as it was a 30th bday treat....
Wish we had gone to Ramsey instead
Quaint ,intimate ,great vibe, great friendly service!
Thank you for having a great vegetarian/ vegan menu! Loved the ambience, so relaxed and chill. Perfect on weekends!
Interesting menu, beautiful restaurant
I always go to Blakes restaurant for breakfast when I go to Wimbledon - great food and ambience. Lovely staff - very helpful. Lovely hotel. Will come back again.
Cosy intimate great bar
A pleasant if dark(ish) restaurant. Maybe we got unlucky with a large noisy party.
The decor is superb as is the food and the service, especially provided by Ignazio, our marvellous waiter. My only criticism would be the music which was better suited to a disco.
Great food, very good service, we were in the courtyard over lunch, the space was beautiful in the open sunshine. Staff were friendly.
Everything about our evening at Blake's was great. The dining room is beautifully decorated and tables a reasonable distance apart. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff; the food was delicious and faultless (sashimi, tuna tartare, pasta with lobster and chilli, seabass with muscles, cheese paste). A great Chardonnay from a good wine list and also a robust glass of red were welcome and enjoyed. Would thoroughly recommend Blake's and we will be back.
Great design and nice ambience. Lovely live music. Just don't go for the food-it was not good - pasta with lobster of low quality - had to send the lamb back. Lazy service. Not good value for money.
I've heard a lot of good things about this place and was eager to visit. But I ended up disappointed. The food was good, although not mind-blowing or umami. The service was a different experience, every 5 min we had someone coming to our table, pouring up water or asking if we needed more. This is most often a nice gesture at the two- & three Michelin starred restaurants I've been to but here it was perceived as too much.
I am pregnant and ordered a soda, so my feeling is that this is why they tried to sell us the water. I know they have to make a profit, but this just felt like aggressive sales. One time when a waitress asked if we wanted another bottle I said "No thank you, we are fine", one minute later she comes back with a bottle and pours up... By this time I was so stressed out by the pushy service I didn't have the energy to say anything. As soon as we finished our main course the same waitress slammed down the dessert menu on our table without saying a word. We got the feeling that they just wanted our visit to be brief.
I believe that when it comes to great service the key is that the staff should feel the vibes from the customer and adapt accordingly. Based on our experience, this is something the staff at Blakes need to work at.
Lovely place to eat and have a drink
Food was mediocre for prices.
Really lovely place ! Service was superb, Italian part of the menu much better then Asian . Will go back for truffle ravioli !!
food is decent but overpriced and service is average at best. the bar manager downstairs could do with a training to improve his clients facing skills
Always a nice restaurant very good food ambiance and service but to be avoided when it's crowded : too noisy and bad service .
This is a great place for a business dinner or date. The place is absolutely beautiful. The only negatives would be the music was WAY too loud for the vibe they were going for. Everything else was fantastic - highly recommend, you wont be disappointed.
Lovely place. Dark, rich looking dining room with fireplace and large windows. Brunch was excellent and service perfect. Would go again.
We arrived at 8 and it was empty but it filled up pretty fast. The deco is really decadent, we ordered a biodynamic wine which was amazing! The food was good and well presented and we were seated by the fireplace which was nice. At the end the manager kept on asking us if we wanted to move to the bar even though we hadn't finished our wine yet. He was a bit pushy leading us to think he wanted to give our table away. Annoying since we had spent £300 on a meal for two and just wanted a few moments more at our table.
Really enjoyed my main meal. The dessert menu was so boring I didn't order anything. It was a great place for a catch-up evening with my girls. The ambience was very comfortable and lovely atmosphere.
Blakes never disappoints! I booked it as a surprise for my husband and we love coming here. Good food, fantastic wine list, attentive service and a cool bar - the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion.
Super atmosphere, strong team, great food. If you can stomach a bit of glam-toff from time to time you won't be bothered by other clientele. A few biz lunches here, which blakes is perfect for. Bar downstairs cool but still finding its place. Bar/restaurant upstairs great on food and wine list (note you can also order from hotel menu if you just fancy a great club sandwich or burger)
Good service friendly staff in a nice quite setting
The service was awkward, intrusive and uncomfortable. The coffee was luke warm. The tea tasted of coffee as it had been made in a coffee pot. Our menu's were taken away from us anxiously before we had even had a chance to decide. We were one of two tables in the restaurant so it's not like they needed them. Although the food was tasty the portions were small.
I have been to Blakes for breakfast whenever I am in London and arriving early morning for Wimbledon. This was my first time to Blakes since they refurbished the restaurant. The room is very nice and much bigger than the restaurant downstairs. However, I couldn't help but feel that something was missing - the service was a bit haphazard - the items on the English breakfast weren't included. The quality of the food is still high, and the staff very friendly. I do
Ambience was great and the staff catered to our every need. Unfortunately, this is all that I will remember about Blakes: the ambience. Nothing special about the food. Ordered Blakes full english and was expecting it to be extraordinary. The only problem was that it was, well, not. Nothing outstanding that warrants the price, apart from maybe the fact that I had it in the first boutique hotel in the world.
Maybe lunch or dinner at Blakes will render a different experience? Wouldnt mind going back but it is not something I would plan for.
Excellent food, great service, great ambience. Highly recommendable restaurant.
What a lovely venue! The food was out of this world delicious-we recommend the foie gras tortellini in plum sauce! I had the scallop starter which was good if a little bit bland and a very generous rib eye. My husband had the lamb cutlets cooked to absolute perfection. The evening was expensive (I paid just over £200 for the two of us-2x champagne each, table water, a starter each, main and dessert to share).
I asked for a special table and they placed us in an intimate 'private room' with beautiful oriental decor. The service was friendly and enthusiastic without being overbearing. The only thing which detracted from the evening was the music. We were treated to quite a loud house track on repeat but apart from that the evening was lovely.
Completely inappropriate and too-loud bar music spoils what is otherwise a charming ambience. Service was friendly but sloppy (eg forgetting to provide a wine list). Food was excellent although portions were not generous.
Lovely restuarant, great service - very attentive, and overall great food. Well worth an outing!
We took friends out for dinner and were looking forward to it. The music was too loud which made our conversation difficult. We were told that there was a DJ playing that evening so we just had to put up with it. Service was as unfriendly as can be. Our waitress was border line arrogant. The bread was so hard it was not edible. Overall, we were rather disappointed and found that the whole experience was highly overpriced.
Entertained a member of the family. The set menu was excellent, good balanced choice and very well presented, high quality. Its not cheap but for the venue and the quality its great value. Highly recommended. It wasnt busy but the serving staff were attentive and very pleasant.
another great evening at Blakes. arrived late, post-theatre and were met by the charming manager Andres, who looked after us beautifully all evening. food was beautifully presented and delicious--mostly western fare with an Asian twist. the room is dark, again, with an East Asian feel and very romantic.
Too high costs for average service, booming music, hit and miss food, below average cocktails...just for the fashion of being in around Chelsea
Blakes is a nice hidden gem in chelsea, with a pretty ambitious menu but the chef manages to deliver a high level in the end-product. Very cozy environment, upscale but not pretentious, makes a perfect spot for a special occasion dinner
We were there lunch time, lovely restaurant, service and staff excellent, different surroundings in all aspects looks nooks and cranies - will be back for evening meal
Made a reservation via Toptable
Got to the restaurant to find no record of the booking
Claimed they were fully booked
We had to leave and find somewhere else
Went for dinner on a weekday. The place was fairly busy...mostly with elderly groups with an odd couple or so...and that pretty much reflects the restaurant. A bit dated decor, a bit cramped seating, a bit understaffed, a bit too much of sugar in the food...it does need sprucing up to deliver the quality and experience that the price reflects.
We had booked this 4 course tasting menu which offered 10 choices including a glass of wine for a great price. My wife chose 4 and I chose 4 different and we shared 8 courses. It was totally outstanding!!! We finished by sharing a huge caramel soufflé which was also the best I have ever eaten. The restaurant is difficult to find hidden in a residential area of downtown London. The inside of this restaurant is dark and the menu is very hard to read. The bar is a great place to first have a drink before your dinner. This restaurant we will talk about for the rest of our lives...not sure why it wasn't packed full. Expensive but worth every £
