Blackwall Hitch - Alexandria
Great drinks and food but a little to pricey
The live music is a great addition. It was a bit loud, so recommend trying to sit away from the band. Service was great, aside for the hostess.
Also, for some reason they weren’t ready to seat at 10 am even though they accept reservations this early. The hostess actually told us that is was going to be 10-15 minutes “because we just opened,” which seemed weird. We selected that time frame because we had plans for the rest of the day. They accept reservations this early and they’ve been opening at the same time on Sunday for a while sooooo...
TL;DR don’t bother with a 10 am reservation, they won’t seat you immediately. Make reservation for 10:30 or later.
Grif was awesome!
Food was good. Background music was much too loud, we could not hear each other.
We enjoyed this restaurant so much that we are returning...2 days later—for a family birthday dinner. Best oysters and lots of interesting seafood options. Plus it is nice to have a water view.
I expect better from a place that charges $30+ for most entrees. Our server never filled our water glasses, wine glasses, and was extremely pushy about, apps, overpriced cocktails, and dessert. There are far better restaurants in Alexandria that don't charge nearly as much.
I really love this restaurant and wanted to take my brother and his wife there who were visiting from California. I ordered the special lobster risotto which was nice but very little lobster. I have noticed that the portions are a lot smaller than other restaurants for the price. Last time I was there, I ordered the shrimp and scallop risotto as I have to eat gluten free and again, 2 maybe medium shrimp and 2 scallops for $30.
Our waiter was great initially but as the evening progressed, he got very busy and we had to wait quite a while to get our check. Again, he was wonderful but just too busy.
We did have a lovely table by the window as requested so I was pleased about that.
Not only is the place beautiful, the service was Awesome and the food was delicious!!!
Arrived early for our reservation by half an hour which we explained to the maître d’ appeared we had checked and sad for half an hour after watching many other people be seated went back up only to find out she’d forgotten to check us in they finally seated us at a hightop in the bar area which is not what we wanted the manager graciously offered to send over to complimentary appetizers but the kitchen got the appetizers that were requested wrong overall not the greatest experience the food was fine nothing to get excited about and the confusion was a definite problem as far as service
Food was good, I think a little over priced but it’s Old Towne.
Chairs were way to soft, I sank into the seat so far I felt like a child in a booster seat .
Overall - as a whole the service was very good but ordered blacked and the fish wasn't had to send it back. Food was ok - but for the price would have expected it to be better.
Drinks were hit and miss. Sat outside on the back deck which was nice.
Would give it another try.
Food was great. The daily special of crab cake, salmon, and grilled shrimp was perfect for my wife. Our server Julian was amazing. Our first time their and his knowledge of the menu and specials was extremely helpful and was equal to his service. Tipped him very well.
Excited to go. Menu looked limited, yet promising. Food was a let down and very over priced. Prime location, disappointing food/service.
The food was amazing, the service was okay, the waitress forgot some of our order.. and I had to request refills initially. The establishment itself was very elegant. We celebrated our 11yr Anniversary and enjoyed the experience.
Awesome location, fantastic wait staff, table was ready when we got there. Ordered some wine with my favorite dinner and appetizer, all outstanding. This is my favorite restaurant in DC/Alexandria.
Was our first time at Blackwall Hitch, really enjoyed the food and service. We had a bit of a wait for seating eventhough we had reservation but it was worth it. I would defn recommend and will go back.
It was an amazing experience. We attend this brunch often. The food is always amazing
I love everything about this restaurant. It is kid friendly which I love. The waterfront scenery is lovely. They have something for everyone’s palettes.
Requested a window seat and didn’t get it
A friend we had not seen in two years recommended Blackwall Hitch as a good place to meet up for dinner. We saw it was close to the water and thought that might be pleasant on a nice evening and thus made a dinner reservation.
We were seated promptly and drink orders were taken. I asked if I could have a taste of a particular draft beer to make sure I liked it. The waiter assured me this would be fine. We waited. My husband's drink arrived. We waited more. Our friend arrived. We chatted. More waiting. Suddenly a person who was not our waiter arrived with a full pint of someone's beer and presented it to me. I said I had been waiting for a taste of a particular one. It seems that they were out of the one I wanted but the waiter never returned to mention that. Why this person decided to choose a beer for me, a huge craft beer aficionado, is a mystery. I suppose he thought he was being helpful?
Our food came and it was underwhelming and not memorable. I had some type of chicken sandwich, I think. The waiter was almost never around and did not even say the typical "Thank you" when we had paid our tab.
Disappointing all around. I so wish this had been a positive experience, but I would not return here, especially with so many other restaurants nearby. I hope your visit is better.
I usually love Blackwall Hitch. I was disappointed in the quality of the food. I know it was a weeknight, but that doesn't excuse a poorly cooked steak - dry, overcooked and tasteless and under cooked fingerling potatoes. My softshell crabs were cooked well, but the avocado salsa(?) was too chunky and tasteless. The quality of the food did not live up to the price point. This should have been a $10 steak and a $12 crab entree. I have had better meals in the past at Blackwall Hitch in Annapolis. My recent experience makes me hesitant to return to the Alexandria location. I hope the Alexandria kitchen can fix these issues. They are a sign of carelessness.
Great seafood near the water but due to the location, only some tables have a really good water view. I had lobster risotto which was great and my guest had the prime rib. I didn't realize she doesn't eat shellfish or any seafood really so would have gone elsewhere. Nice table so she could see the water as she was visiting from LA but I do wish the arrangement allowed more tables to see the water.. They have a bar with TV sets in the middle of a space which would have been better used for water views in my opinion. Anyway, the service was great although this place is really noisy. I've visited maybe three times and plan to return and sit on the outdoor patio which is lit with lovely patio lighting.
The temperature was too warm, which made for an uncomfortable dining experience. We were sweating and not able to enjoy fellowship.
Food was not what i expected. Could be better. Location and atmosphere was beautiful
The food and atmosphere was outstanding but the service was lacking. I think our server was newer and he struggled to manage our table of 2, another table of 2 or 4, and a large party of maybe 12-14. We had to wait 15 minutes to put in our drink orders, food came out but we didn’t receive silverware for another 5 minutes and we only saw the server once more for drink refills. I’d give it another go because it was clear that with the special e event the whole restaurant was sort of reeling.
Food was excellent. Everything we tried was delicious! And our server was awesome, giving great recommendations and being attentive without being overbearing. Great night out.
I had a wonderful time with my family! What a great experience, the staff, the scenery, the service, and the food was phenomenal. I would DEFINITELY come back!
Overall, great time. The non-pasta entrees were a bit lacking in substance. I.e., the shrimp and scallop risotto did not cotain much risotto. The Softshell crab entree did not have a starch accompaniment. However, the Bayou Pasta was quite filling and the sandwiches were a very nice size!
The appetizers were outstanding ! The signature drinks were a DUD tastewise>
I was disappointed because I’m s regular. Service was super slow. Crab cake sandwich was cold and dry
Worst experience I’ve ever had there
I have to say I was really disappointed and other than the outdoor bar and views, I cannot recommend Blackwall Hitch. It is really just a glorified Red Lobster. Dishes are mass produced and taste like it. Very little attention to detail or quality production being done in the kitchen. Very disappointing.
What a wonderful restaurant! Great location, great service and great food!
Menu online was not menu presented. Food was average. Wait time was a little much.
This was my first time at BWH. Our server Stephanie was great, our food not so much. I ordered the Trident special (salmon, lump crab cake, and shrimp on a bed of mashed potatoes) based on Stephanie's recommendation. While the salmon was tasty, the shrimp were overcooked, and the crab cake was missing lumps.
Visiting friends enjoyed the restaurant and the food, as did we. We keep coming back to our local favorite
The restaurant is gorgeous. Right on the water, I know at night.
Food and music was perfect for a sunday brunch. Service was great in the bar area. I will be returning again
The server was very disengaged, he did not seem excited to be at work and it made for an awkward experience. We were there for a birthday celebration and honestly wished we celebrated somewhere else.
