Black Salt usually rates very high, but this was an unremarkable visit. The rockfish was so so, the confite was served with overcooked and rubbery tuna and massive amounts of oil. Quite disappointing. Service was good, but remember this is an expensive place to eat and the bar should be high.
Group lunch we were well taken care of. House made chips are fabulous. Some in the group had never been to Black Salt and loved it
Excellent food, service and ambience. Loved it and highly recommend it!
Went for lunch to celebrate my moms birthday. Food was excellent as always and lunch prices were more affordable for good portions with the same quality as dinner. I have never been disappointed here and will continue to dine here.
Ein perfekter Abend mit hervorragendem Fisch! Happy Hour empfehlenswert
Great food and service as always. This place is well beyond a neighborhood favorite--it's a gem for fish lovers.
Our meals were as close to perfectly executed as any restaurant I have been to in the last decade. It was brunch, which can be perceived as simple, but there’s ample opportunity for a misstep. Not a one. Every egg, every pastry, every piece of seafood without a hint of a mistake. Not easy to do. Well done.
Seafood is always good. Service felt rushed, maybe because we had a 8:45 reservation? But considering the price, we should have stellar service regardless.
Love this restaurant!! Always a great meal!! Only one word of advice: Run, don't walk. You will be so glad you did!!
Service, reception, bar, dining was exceptional. Cuisine outstanding! Scallop appetizer sensation with a multitude of flavors.
Was seated in the backroom, cute, but low ceilings, a bit smelly, and acoustics horrible. I have moderate tinnitus and the ambient noise made it virtually impossible to converse with my guest. Otherwise a "5"
An old favorite of ours, with a great rotating seasonal menu, a well informed staff, comfortable dining room, and an excellent wine card. I’m hard to recommend a particular dish but it’s a seafood restaurant and the wood grilled fish is always a great option!
Another excellent meal at BlackSalt - super fresh fish expertly cooked!
Service was very good. The protein was impeccable and the dishes presented very nicely - but there were a lot of flavors going on in some of the dishes and the beautiful seafood itself got a little lost. Thank you for adding to an enjoyable trip to Washington DC.
A very dependable neighborhood favorite. They do fish right. The sommelier is superb.
I had heard/read quite a bit about this restaurant, and I have to say: it was very much as I expected.
It's a bit on the pricey side, but the food was excellent. The staff are very knowledgeable, and very friendly and helpful.
This was a wonderful evening and my wife and I will definitely be back on a regular basis!
Our first visit. Wonderful food, A+ service. Will definitely be back.
this was our second time here and the food fantastic again!
Food was excellent as always, but prices have gone way up since our last visit!
The open kitchen with hardwood floors and ceiling are awful in terms of creating a quieter space for conversation at a decent decibel. The food is excellent in quality. Serving size is a bit small for dollar value but high quality. Servers are, well, by American standards "good" - still don't know how to quietly serve without asking guests each time if there are needs or not knowing how to put a dish on the table without disrupting the guests. Parking is the big issue...so early dining is best. WILL DEFINITELY GOOD BACK. Just not that many place in DC truly worthy of my calories.
Great food, great service, great evening. Black Salt also does a nice job of seating parties of 6 at round tables.
Make reservations, and go. Start to finish everything was outstanding. We went for my wife's birthday with friends. They have a very nice wine menu and a very knowledgeable wine Sommelier who will help you make a choice and not bust your purse. We started by sharing a seafood tower ( they will help you mix and match if you have food allergies at the table ). All our entrees were exceptional but I think the stand out dish of the night was the Sesame Crusted Halibut . My wife had the Bigeye Tuna and we had two orders of Thai Coconut & Galangal Seafood Stew ( Prawn, Snapper, Clams, Mussels, Scallop, Tamarind Rice Cake, Lime, Cilantro, Basil ) at the table. Apparently they felt they took to long bringing our entrees and comped us 4 deserts. We were enjoying the evenings conversation and thought the timing was perfect. Like the rest of the menu, the deserts are excellent.
Always a good experience. We will be back
Black Salt has some of the best sea food in the city. Actually, probably the best. It is a well known neighborhood and city gem. The service is fantastic and the atmosphere is dynamic.
By far the best food in DC. The staff is very friendly too.
Great seafood restaurant that has great oysters to start with. I find the main courses to be generous too.
My favorite restaurant serving exceptionally fresh fish, with elegant, creative and sophisticated plates .
The bonus as well is a great happy hour.
Blacksalt never disappoints! We took friends for a birthday celebration and not only were the food and service exemplary as always, but our menus said Happy Birthday and she got a tiny cake with a candle to commemorate her occasion. And, our dietary needs were happily met with helpful ideas and a smiling countenance. I always recommend Blacksalt to everyone I know. Thanks as usual!
Terrible service. Long wait for food. Over an hour. Ran out of dish my husband ordered. Lots of apologies from staff, however, did not change the bad experience by then. Mgr. took a percentage off our bill. Nice gesture but an enjoyable evening would have been preferable.
Excellent food, attentive staff. Seems to be getting a bit pricey.
Great food! Friendly staff! Always a pleasure when we go there. Love the atmosphere and did I mention the food is phenomenal.
The oysters Rockefeller, Maryland rock fish, and burrata salad were amazing. As was the chocolate layer cake. Skip the baby octopus appetizer. The service was amazing and they treated us extra special on our anniversary!
Everything was very good. Had to sit in back room bc the front was just too noisy. Dishes ranged from VG to E
Price greatly exceeds value of food. Stew was moderate serving, 1 shrimp, 1 scallop, 1 v small piece of fish, 4 tiny muscles, 4 even tinier clams (less than inch wide), wonderful broth for $38.00. No sides. Very loud. Joey, waiter, was v attentive, nice. Not worth it!
Excellent, as always 😊
Amazing food and brilliant service!
Birthday celebrations at Blacksalt are the best, especially in the back quiet section. We brought our own wines which compliment the great food, and the sommelier was very attentive to our selection. Service was outstanding. We should’ve gotten the tower appetizer which was fabulous the last time we went. The calamari was average and the crab cakes had spine bits. I wish they would consider a fish stew or bouillabaisse!
Otherwise, still a favorite.
Overall great! I recommend it highly!
Oysters were the best as was the fried fish sandwich at lunch.
Amazing first time for Brunch! Had a great table to see into the kitchen and watch the magic happen. The highlights were the amazing pasties and breads created by the talented Chef Maddy. (Chocolate Scones, Beignets) One would expect no less from a chef that helped create the menu at a Michelin Star restaurant. (Burger was tasty. Great bun to patty ratio) Service was friendly and non obtrusive. Already made a date to be back with more people. Highly recommend.
We booked a reservation for 7 adults and one child for a birthday dinner. Great choice! Staff were very helpful with accommodating the baby, the noise level was low so it was easy for the older members of the party to hear the conversation, and the service made it feel quite special. It was perfect for a fancy-but-family-friendly gathering.
