Usually a very pleasant experience, this visit was a bit disappointing. As it's reputation has risen, so has patronage. More staff is required to keep up. The lobster bisque lacked both lobster and savory taste. We will go again, as this was the first time we have been disappointed.
Great experience for a wonderful mother!!
Would prefer smaller portions for lunch of everything. The bowl of lobster bisque is a meal on its own! It would be nice to have a prix fixe three course lunch with a choice of appetizer, entree: vegetarian, fish and meat or poultry, and dessert, in smaller portions. Wonderful bread...but too much. Am guessing the leftovers are used for the bread pudding.
The food and service was top-notch!
Superb food and service was extremely well done with style, professionalism, courtesy and respect!
Amazing experience, as always, at the Bistro. Service and food are exceptional, and we always feel like family.
We returned to Bistro l’Hermitage to celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary. We were met at the door and greeted by name and promptly taken to our table. My wife order the Lobster Bisque while I had their Caesar Salad. Both were delicious and very nicely presented/plated. For our ent red, my wife chose Coquille St. Jacque while I chose the Roasted Duck Breast. Again, bot were deliciously prepared and pleasingly presented. Our server recommend a a Cortes du Rhône Red that went well with both the scallops and the duck breast. Dessert-Chocolate Lava Case for my beautiful bride and a Lemon Meringue Tart for me; both accompanied by a decaf Cappuccino. We spent a leisurely 2-½ hours at dinner and at no time were were rushed. It was a pleasant evening and a fond. Remembrance of our anniversary.
Outstanding combination of ambiance, great food and excellent service . . . pay attention to the chef's specials, they're worth it! Thanks!
The atmosphere was like that of a French country bistro. Wait staff were appropriately attentive without being intrusive and knowledgeable of the menu items.
The menu is traditional French with a large selection and some chef specialties. We were surprised at the larger than expected portion sizes. Outstanding was the foie gras served on toast points with contrasting accompaniments. Salads are flavorful, perfectly dressed and attractively presented. The piquant tomato and roasted red pepper soup was tasty but could have used some crème fraiche and a crunchy element to enhance it. Both entrees (Coquille St. Jacques and Veal Paillard) were well prepared but not memorable.
The wine list is comprised mostly of French and Domestic wines but has some international selections. Prices are reasonable and there is a nice selection of wine available under $60 for the budget conscious.
This restaurant is in the expensive range but is recommended for special occasion dining.
Great service. Food quality was excellent with generous portions. This is a “go to” place for special occasions.
This was my first visit. We had a brunch menu, for Mother's Day. Wonderful food and very attentive service! You actually feel like you're in France. Highly recommend the Bistro L'Hermitage.
Impeccable service, glorious cuisine, established wine and cocktail list makes for a wonderful and memorable evening.
We had a fabulous time, the food was excellent, the menu diverse and the staff very pleasant. My wife enjoyed her filet mignon and my breast of duck was succulent and tasty. I was surprised when they gave us a candlelit creme bru-lée to celebrate our joint birthday. Comfortable atmosphere, not at all stuffy as one might have thought in the beginning. We will return for sure, no need to go into Georgetown for fine dining.
Service, and food great. The noise level was far too high; unable to have a conversation.
This is my second time dining here and I must say I was disappointed with a couple of things. First the restaurant was empty and they sat us at this dark table in the corner of the bar and when I asked for another table the hostess kept making excuses to not move us even though there were plenty of tables available. Then while I was eating my bread one of the servers snatched my plate away to give me a bowl of soup mind you we had not even ordered anything yet! We told him it was the wrong table. Our server came back several times but me and mom were just catching up and hadn't even looked at the menu then he rushed us to order something. Me and my mom both ordered the crab cake sandwich which was ok it had shrimp in it which I did not like much and the inside of the fries were mushy like the potatos were overcooked or something. Also I guess the server was trying to compliment my mom by telling me she was prettier than me but not really a good joke to a customer/someone you do not know...
Never disappoints! I brought a friend for his first time. He loved the croissants so much, along with the garlic shrimp, a true winner! We also shared the awesome and authentic Caessr salad, and I had the trout with champagne risotto...champagne hits the back of the tongue tasting that risotto! Wonderful meals!
Awesome dining experience. Dress up or down and head on over, after making a reservation!
Service was impeccable. Atmosphere is that of a country inn. Ideal for a quiet, special occasion.
As always, really great food and they always make us feel right at home. My only saddness on the meal, they changed the scallop appetizer. I always get it, and wasn’t super impressed with the new dish. Still good, but not as amazing. Great place overall!
This was our first brunch experience at Bistro L'Hermitage and, again, we were treated to a great experience all around. A nice variety on the menu and good wine selection. It was a dreary rainy day and we missed a couple of hours of it enjoying a fantastic brunch.
There was a new menu with which the kitchen was apparently unfamiliar. It took over 1 hour from ordering until being served. The waiter kept apologizing. Our neighboring table was also quite frustrated. We have been very pleased in the past, but if this is the new standard we won't be back.
Unbelievable food. Great experience. Great service. Will definitely be back.
I’m usually a huge fan of this restaurant, but do not go during lunch time. I booked an online reservation for 2:15 not realizing they close mid day on a Saturday. We were there to celebrate an early Mother’s Day lunch. Moments after I sat down I was told I needed to order right away. I had to call my Mom to read her the lunch menu over the phone. She was only about 5 minutes from the restaurant, but I didn’t want to risk not being able to eat. The food here btw is always fabulous so never a problem there. I was a little disappointed in the service this visit. They did not meet the typical service standards they do for dinner. The server was very friendly, but we never even got a water refill. It appeared the staff was focused getting ready for the dinner shift and we were being ignored. The meal again was delicious, but it did not have the sparkle I was expecting out of a pricy Mother’s Day lunch. This is my favorite restaurant for all special occasions and when I treat family from out of town. However, lunch service needs to be as important as dinner...or reservations should not be taken. Thank you!
Fantastic food and service! Great atmosphere, decor, and background music. Highly recommended!!
I was with some friends and we were trying to decide where to eat. Me not being from Virginia, L'Hermitage kept coming up in the discussion. Since no one could decide,
I told them I just booked it so we are going. I do not regret that decision. The food was excellent. I had the duck...wonderful. The crepes dessert was great as well.
The restaurant had a great atmosphere. If I am ever in the area again, I would definitely go again.
Dinner at Bistro L'Hermitage is a delicious adventure. Each course is presented as if it is the star! We enjoyed Beef Bourguignon, Lobster & Shrimp and a trio of desserts. The service is attentive and the atmosphere is relaxing. The restaurant is an oasis in the midst of busy NOVA activity.
Very loud people next to us and some prom kids on the other side. New waiter was still learning. Most experiences we have here are amazing but this one was just average. Food was wonderful as always though.
This was our fourth time at l'Hermitage in the last year and a half. As always the food and service were impeccable. The staff conveys and atmosphere of old world charm that makes it an outstanding choice for any special occasion. l'Hermitage has my highest recommendation.
The service and food was exceptional.
Wonderful as usual. Love everything about having a date night dinner. Thanks
Overall nice atmosphere and attentive service though the lighting could be a bit less bright. Excellent flavored food but both of our fish entrees were way over cooked. Mentioned it to our server who insisted on sending us home with a mousse dessert then ended up charging it to us! Will not be back.
I took my husband to Bistro L'Hermitage for his 65th birthday. From the hostess, to the waiter, to the water boy, everyone was welcoming and had been told we were celebrating a birthday. The food was excellant and we enjoyed every bite.
Few restaurants are as consistently good as Bistro L'Hermitage. From appetizers to desserts, the kitchen turns out dependably delicious fare at each visit. The service is smooth and not intrusive and the room is lovely and comfortable. A favorite to which we return as often as possible.
We’ve been here several times. Definitely one of our favorite restaurants and we’ll continue coming back
Simply the best every time we go to the Bistro. Never disappoints!!!!
If you are looking for a quiet, romantic get-away dinning with absolutely great food, then you have found it. Cost is good for fine dinning. I took my wife there for her birthday and had a great time, the wait staff was friendly and helpful. Food was exceptional, hint: get the Lobster Bisque to start with. This is a great place to go for that special occasion. Cost was moderate but well worth the experience.
We had a very enjoyable dining experience at Bistro L'Hermitage. Youssef Essaki, owner, personally greeted us and was delightful, and continued to check on us on a very busy evening--he was the perfect host! The food was excellent as was our server. The potato-leek soup was exceptional. We look forward to going back on multiple occasions.
