Alux Restaurante calificaciones y reseñas
With much high expectation, and now much regret I have to admit, this was one of the most disappointing not worth the money spent ($200) dining experiences in Playa. The setting of a cave is pretty much the only thing that is going for it. The overpowering smell of Mildew in the air was a turn off for me. I kept my rescue inhaler handy. The food was quite expensive yet very mediocre or less in quality, preparation and presentation, service was bellow standard, or poor, drinks were watered down and substandard, you can get a better mojito on the beach. Overall a very disappointing experience that left us wishing we were at Sur, where for half the cost you can get consistently superior service, lively setting, great food and delicious drinks (including vino) for dis I mention half the cost.
In the spirit of Mayan legend of Alux, I have to say that it must have been Alux who's at fault. ;)
Best advise as a frequent high scale dine, Alux could use a serious management look and revamp
They didn't have our table ready, then they offered us a table for six, but put two extra plates between the two tables (where the two tables get together), so you couldn't seat because the thick wood where on the way.
There was no air conditioner or fans for us, then the were going to put us in the lounge, by this time we were soak in sweat.
The set is very pretty, we were celebrating a 50th birthday, and decided to go somewhere else.
The ambiance was phenomenal, due to being situated within a cave. However, outside of the surprisingly flavorful fried cheese dish, the entrees were all slightly underseasoned. That said, every one of our mixed drinks and dessert were fantastic, and were more than worth the visit.
The service was wonderful, food presentation was beautiful, the solo guitar player was good. Defenitley It was great and different dining experience eating inside the cave. I was surprise that being inside a cave it was not cold it was humid, I would say that was the only draw back of the restaurant; overall I highly would recomended
It was more than we expected. Usually when a restaurant is built around an attraction...you typically only get the attraction and the rest of the dining experience is dismissed. This was not the case at Alux.
From the warm greeting coming down the cascading stairs in the entry, To the attentive service , and throughout each course of well prepared and presented food; this was truly an Exceptional Dining Experience.
We will be back...
The food was terrible and not good. When we told the waiter the citrus dressing was sweet and they gave us the honey one they said "oh." The parmigiana cheese crisp was not crispy and was damp like it was sitting out in the humid air all day. The menu wasn't up to date, items on it not available anymore. So took the recommendation and had a steak. The sauce with the veritables tasted like a bottle of salt was in it. My dates steak medallion was so rare that if it was raw. When we told the waiter he told us that it was how they come. I asked for the private area which is an extra $30. I told them no rose pedals an they were all over the floor around the table. Personally I would not recommend this place! Save your money and go somewhere else to eat!
Horrible service, average & overpriced food.
we went there to celebrate my mother's 60th birthday. regret my decision.
we really liked the dining in the cave experience- walked into a cave environment with lights showing the different stalactites. Our good experience ended there.
we went inside the cellar and ordered a bottle of mexican wine. It was a blend of cabernet and merlot. the cork was soiled and the wine tasted pungent. We called the server and told him that the wine did not taste good. The server went and called the manager (Luis) who came and "assured" us that the wine was good and suggested putting it in a decanter to let the air out. We agreed to that. Even after waiting more than 30 mins to let the wine air in the decanter, the wine still tasted very acidic. We told our server that we don't the wine and wish that it be taken off the bill.
In terms of the food, the cranberry and strawberry sauce in the cenote duck tasted too sweet. The Chile Mexico Lindo tasted too spicy. The fried camembert tasted burnt. The lime soup and the mexican chocolate desert were good.
Imagine our surprise, that at the end of the meal the wine was still on the bill. Confident that this was a mistake, I called the server as I was settling the check. The server said that we have to pay for the wine. We asked to talk to the manager. The manager (Luis) came and said that we have to pay for the wine. I just could not believe it- we spent over USD 310 on food and drinks and the manager is arguing with me over a $12 bottle of wine? The service is rude and arrogant and this place doesn't deserve the high price tag for the average food.
You would never know this restaurant was in a cavern just from driving by. It looks like any restaurant from the street; however, once inside it's a magical place. It's definitely a place to celebrate a special occasion. Food was fantastic; service was great; ambiance outstanding.
This restaurant is a hidden gem in playa del carmen. It is located in a busy street where you would never imagine a restaurant like this to be. Once you arrive, the ambiance is very unique. The lighting, music, and your surroundings make you feel like you are daydreaming. The service is excellent. Menu choices you have a variety of foods to choose from. I oredered the duck, it was delicious, our waiter was very attentive. He made a mistake in one of our appetizers and gave us 2 glasses of wine on the house because he made a mistake. We had no room for desert. After dinner we went exploring and taking random pictures
So glad we decided to go. I thought it was going to be a tourist trap restaurant but the whole atmosphere of eating in a real cave was amazing from start to finish with the lighting the surroundings to the service, food and then exploring the cave was just great. I would highly recommend to anyone going to playa to go. You will not be disappointed. Its amazing that this gem is hidden in the middle of a city street.
Amazing collection of very cool and modern dining areas in different rooms of a real cave discovered only 21 years ago when someone drilling on the street above hit air. Some of the rooms may just have a single table with a crystal chandelier hanging. Very romantic. Other rooms may have a group table with leather couches. Don't wear heels - you are literally walking on a cave floor. Great music playing - it used to be a disco. Food was creative - and decent. Nothing spectacular - but good. They lost our reservation but took a party of 6 in about 20 min. Service is very slow - which is fine - you just have to relax and soak it all in. Only diss - drinks had almost zero ice.
Surprised my wife with a trip to Alux on Valentines Day. Had a great romantic meal and my wife was enamored with the ambiance. Ask for a private table if you want to be secluded.
They didn't have my reservation from Open Table on the list, but seated us right away despite the confusion. It is out of the way from the hustle of 5th Ave, so a cab is recommended. The AC in the area near our table was more than enough to keep the temperature comfortable.
We will be back the next time we are in PDC.
Unbelievable cave-like setting that was unimaginably huge and wondrous to see. While the wine selection might have been a little more extensive when it comes to Chardonnays, we found the experience quite worthwhile, quite enjoyable. Staff was very attentive. Food was outstanding although I found the selections to be limited and more exotic. Thank you for a memorable evening!
