Alux Restaurante calificaciones y reseñas
Unique ambiance...just beautiful. Great lighting. We ended our week in Playa with a special dinner at Alux...The most unique restaurant I have ever had the pleasure of dining in. Interior chandeliers, waterfalls, wine cellar and bar. Something on the menu for everyone. I had the wild boar from the exotic menu, hubby had the Salmon and my two girls had the chicken wrapped in bacon stuffed with goat cheese. Everyone loved their meal and my husband was particularly fond of the Lime Soup.
Dress accordingly, it is humid underground but, not to the point of being uncomfortable. A/C and fans keep the air moving. We had an early seating so we could roam thru the cave (cenote) before dining. Service and food were both terrific! There are about 30 large stone steps leading down to the restaurant so, the entry is not handicapped accessible.
This was a long planned booking with friends and we were excited to go, unfortunately from the moment we arrived it went down hill.
First off they had no record of my booking made on Open table some weeks prior ( which I had to prove my showing my app) so we got our name put down on a list. Our table was booked for 9 - we eventually got given a table at 9:45 .
The waiter ( Joshua)came over and did a great job introducing himself.
We went to the wine cave to find out they pretty much had nothing and got recommended a Romanian Sauvignon Bland. I asked for a very cold bottle which when it arrived was fresh from a box not a chiller .
We ordered cocktails to allow the wine to chill.
We ordered appetizers - 2 octopus - 1 cheese and onion marmalade and the crab trio .
We said we would order entree when the appetizer came.
My wife had the cheese and loved it !
My friend and I had the octopus which was quite frankly awful ( both of us love Octopus ) it was rubbery and covered in what I can only describe as a mole style sauce . We both left it and when asked if we liked it said no and the reply was oh sorry . But with nothing added like , can I get something else / I'll remove from the bill.
We asked for bread before the appetizers , never came .
After sitting and waiting for Joshua to take our entree order 30 mins despite asking - we just gave up and decided to leave.
The restaurant is an amazing venue but the food and service are awful as well as terribly overpriced!
We are from Canada and went to Mexico for Christmas. For Christmas dinner we decided to try this restaurant. It was amazing food and ambiance!! Such a beautiful experience and well worth going too!!! Bring a camera as I can guarantee you will never go to another place like this.
WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF OUR TRIP.... FOOD WAS AMAZING, ATMOSPHERE WAS FANTASTIC, EXPECT TO BE SWEATY AND HOT, BUT IT IS A CENOTE... ITS INCREDIBLE TO EXPERIENCE SUCH A NATURAL WONDER AND YET DECORATED TO ITS UTMOST. 5 STAR RATING IN MY BOOKS. A MUST SEE WHEN IN PLAYA...DONT FORGET YOUR CAMERA... AS YOU MEANDER THROUGH THE CAVES, THERES ONE QUAINT CORNER TO DINE AFTER ANOTHER... ITS AMAZING...
We decided to visit ALUX because it was suppose to be something different where we could have dinner in a cave. I guess we should have known it would be touristy and the food would probably not be that great.
Our waitress Marcela was really nice in the beginning and helped us with wine and dinner selection. We still felt prices were really high for what we were ordering. We ordered the grilled octopus (which looked liked it was boiled and no way grilled) and also the snails (chopped up and drizzled with butter and cheese) for our appetizers.
We also had the squid ink pasta and the seafood platter for our main course. Both were not good to say the least - pasta was bland and the seafood was really not tasty at all. Also, the restaurant was so dark that we couldn't even see what we were eating!
We also brought an amazing bottle of wine and inquired about corkage and Marcela initially told us it was $350 pesos. Then, she came back and said it was $400 pesos but when the bill came it was $550 pesos. She corrected the bill but at another rest. it was $180.
Our experience turned to the worse when it was time to pay the check - the bill came with a separate note on gratuity which she had added 20% to the bill. We felt the food was mediocre - nothing to shout home about so we wanted to adjust it to 10%. We were then told that if we reduced it - she would have to pay for the remaining out of her own pocket. She basically insisted for us to pay the whole 20%. We had ordered a really expensive bottle of champagne and didn't think we should pay the tip on alcohol so we took the cost of the champagne off then gave them 20% tip. We didn't really feel we should need to justify what we give for the tip - this really ruined our experience of the place.
I would not recommend this place as its a tourist trap!!! They were suppose to give us a tour of the cave which we ended up saying no as our experience towards the end was beyond disappointing!
Never going back!
We went for my husband's birthday. When I reserved I had a hard time determining when children were allowed and had to search for this information, please provide it up front.
We were among the first guests of the evening and we're able to roam around and see all the rooms while they were empty. It is a beautiful and unique place, but that is it's best quality.
The food was underwhelming and on the expensive side. The service had a lot of problems. When we had only water on the table a full glass spilled across the whole table, and I thought surely the soaked tablecloth would be changed or we might move to another table since most were empty. Instead our waitress came and spread our cloth napkins over the wet area then brought new napkins. She also "got busy" the second half of our meal and disappeared completely, but she did send another waiter to explain and take care of us. When we got the check she reappeared but brought the wrong bill, having put us and another table together. I pointed this out and she took a long time sorting it out. I really did not like that we paid with a credit card and said we would add on the tip but when she ran it she entered her own tip, more than we would have given her since she was gone for half the meal. I hope the other guy got some.
It is a beautiful environment and a lot of work has gone into the design and decor, but it is a restaurant and the food and service should raise their standards to match. It's worth a visit, but not as high quality as I expected.
Firstly what an amazingly beautiful venue! We visited here for my birthday and what a wonderful time we had. I had the snails to start followed by the Mexican Caviar (ant eggs) which were beautifully morish. Are waiter was incredibly attentive and the wine cellar is a small little gem of a place. We dined at 1930 which seemed the perfect time as when we were finishing up about 2 hours later, nearly every table was full. If and when we visit Mexico again we will return. Thank you for such a wonderful evening x
Service was ridiculous, Waited 30 minutes for water, never got my main course, and our waiter took his 15% tip before he brought back the change.. not that I wouldn´t have tipped him, but I think I should get to decide..
Food was ok though.
We shared the surf and turf platter for 2 people, which could feed about 4 people. We enjoyed 3 appetizers to start which were all fantastic. Octopus, fried cheese, and red pepper stuffed with cheese. Presentation was amazing. But as soon as we were done our apps, our mains came. We had no break in between. Would have been nice to have a moment to finish our cocktail and order a glass of wine in between. None the less the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was outstanding. Unfortunately our server was sub par, not horrible. Not attentative, never asked us how our mains were. Couldn't order a glass of wine until after our meal. And we barely ate half of our main dish due to lack of breathing room in between. And we were going our after we couldn't bring it with us. Such a waste of food. However it was still an awesome experience. I would definitely visit this place again when I go back to Playa! Thanks for a delicious meal!
Really, the only reason to go to Alux is the atmosphere. It is one-of-a-kind. While the food is definitely inventive, not everyone wants to eat that way. The lobster bisque itself was delicious, but the pile of spouts on top did nothing at all to enhance it, they just looked pretty. I am not an adventurous eater, I like good, basic food, so there was almost nothing on the menu that attracted me. I chose the squid ink pasta, which was slightly overlooked -- too soft. Three out of the four of us as trouble finding something "normal" to eat. It's also very dark and you can't see what you are eating. We wish there had been a different kind of table lighting that would have allowed us to see what was on our plates. Also, while the service is superior, when we were done with our meal we waited F O R E V E R for the bill, and then for our credit card to be returned. We had enough of the humidity and just wanted to get out of there; why did that take so long?
Cool location for dinner. We walked around the restaurant to check it out. Never seen anything like it. It was really cool. The food was good but not spectacular. The cocktails were really good. It was kind of humid and definitely warmer than a regular restaurant, but can you expect when you're in a cave. I definitely recommend having dinner here at least once for the experience.
A very cool place to dine! The cave atmosphere was spectacular and the cenote was great. Above all, the food was delicious. That was so great because quite ofter the location is unique but the food not great. In this case, the lobster bisque was outstanding and so was the lobster itself. Really done nicely. We eat a lot of seafood so our expectations were high and The Alux really came thru. Very nice dinner. Would highly recommend and I would definitely go again when in the PLaya del Carmen area
