The ambiance of the place is incredible. That’s why it’s a must come at least once when you come visit PDC. The food was pretty good and actually decently priced compared to other fancy places in the city. The drinks were good and service was great. You can also walk around the caves at any part of your meal or after, as it seems like it goes on forever. They had these separate tables in its own sections for couples going on a date. I deem those “engagement” worthy spots as it looked super romantic.

All in all, worth the money and experience to go! #worthit

Do not be afraid to ask for the prices, specifically from the nonexistent wine menu. They will take you to theirs “wine cellar “ and “recommended” what ever wine they want you to buy

Again ask for the prices

Other then their location everything else is very mediocre

Really wanted to like this restaurant. I foolishly booked before reading the trip advisor reviews but decided to continue anyway.

The reason this got 2 out of five and not 1 is due to the cave setting. It truly is stunning.

However, that is really where the good ends. The food is mediocre and extremely over priced considering what is server. I've no problem paying high pricrs for quality food. However, the quality is lacking here. Luke warm sides, a gem lettuce cut in half with the stalk still included served up as a cesear salad. Fillet steak very so so.

However, where things really go down hill is the service, especially around wine selection. It felt like negotiating with a hawker on the street. There is no wine list, instead we were brought to the wine cellar and asked what kind of wine we liked. The waiter then selected a bottle priced at US$120. When we said we wanted to spend around $40 were told that there were no bottles for that price. We were then offered the house wine which we turned down before eventually settling on a 'cheap' US$60 bottle of local mexican wine. The whole thing felt like a con. Every other restaurant in the world provides a wine list with prices.

They also added on a 5% charge to pay by card. No other restaurant we have eaten at in Playa does this and it is not mentioned on the menu. We will usually pay the bill by card and tip in cash. Waiter insisted that we provide the cash and the card at the same time. Was also happy to recommend the amunt we should tip in cash. Left yet another bad taste in our mouths, so we decided to leave 12% which the waiter was most displeased about.

Have never left a restaurant feeling so cheated. do yourself a favour and avoid this place.

The place is sick! The scenario, the lights, the decoration, ... wow!

And the food? It's been the best dinner I've had in Mexico so far. The oysters and the lobster rissotto, the best!!
They even have a cute little wine cellar from wines all around the world.

You can't miss this spot, it's ideal for an special occasion.

2 years ago we had a 5 star experience and returned for wife’s 65th birthday with family. The ambiance is still 5 stars as you enter into the underground caves. Amazing stalagmites and stalactites are beautiful, so take your time to enjoy this underground wonder. Every table has a picturesque view.
The rest of this evening was a snowballing disappointment. A mixologist used to make amazing cocktails, now they are so-so and the presentation is below par. You will be pressured to enter their wine cellar in an effort to sell you a pricey bottle of wine. Ordering by the glass is discouraged.
Ordering just one appetizer for the table to share and you may get a questioning look followed by an effort to make you feel you should order more or at least a salad for each person. Warning, do not order your main course at the same time as your appetizers. If you do you’ll find that there is hardly any time to finish one before the next arrives.
To start the meal service you will get a complimentary plate with a teaspoon of cold mashed potatoes on a drizzle of avocado with a 2” thin slice of green pepper. Cute presentation, nothing to inspire your tastebuds.
We had the dear meat appetizer with radish and greens. Plenty to share, nice presentation, cold shredded meat a bit on the tougher side. As I stated above, hardly had we finished with pre-dinner cocktails still waiting to be drank, the main course arrive. Now we were feeling rushed. The food was cold and undercooked. The Tuna was spongy and waterlogged. The Salmon mostly raw and the medium rare steak was very rare. Could not eat the tuna. The others went back to recook and came out better. We asked for a manager to come over and a table supervisor showed up. He apologized but said the food preparation was out of his hand. Cook seems to have his own agenda. Got a small birthday cake at the end, which was the best dish we had. So sad to have the beautiful cenote cave ambiance setting with such a disappointing meal.

This restaurant was a must-see experience! Don't go for the food - go for the one of a kind atmosphere and cool environment. The food isn't as good as the prices would suggest, but it's still good and I really enjoyed the whole experience. After you eat you can walk around the farthest reaches of the cenote to see how far it goes and all the little hidey-holes they have put tables in! The lighting is also very cool - lots of colors and warmth. You would think it smelled dank and mildewy but it doesn't. I would totally recommend this place to anybody who isn't really claustrophobic.

While visiting Playa on vacation, my friends and I were looking into fun and unique places for dinner, Alux delivered. The ambiance and setting in a cave was unlike any other I’ve been to and was overall very fun. I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a fun/special dining experience while visiting Playa Del Carmen.

My family of 6 and I had a fabulous dining experience here. Truly a unique place in a cavern. Beautiful and highly unusual setting. We had tour of a small yet unique wine cellars and had 2 fabulous bottles of wine from Mexico. All the food was amazing, we had 3 appetizers, green apple and local crema aguachile and deer tizic and the salmon tartar. We each had fabulous entrees the lobster risotto and tuna, cocoa and coffee were outstanding! Our servers were very attentive and Roberto was top notch. Would highly recommend this restaurant experience to anyone in Playa Del Carmen.

Where do I start? You can take cute pictures with colorful cave walls, but I suggest you leave right after that. The food is so bad it’s inedible. I get it, someone is trying to be creative and want to make sure that plates are Instagram ready, but people are actually want to eat this. The weirdest experience was a smocked cheesecake - I could not get this smell out of my hair snd body for 24 hours. Bill for 3 people was $350 USD without alcohol. I am just saying.

Alux is beautiful and a definite must see. Dishes are a bit expensive but everyone should stop to experience if you can. We ordered the sea bass and cowboy steak. Both were decent, potato’s served with the steak were undercooked.

We reserved a private room for an extra 55$. The cave is huge and you would never expect it to be there. We ordered and then walked around to check it out. Very cool!

Let me start by saying the service was excellent, the staff is well trained. The location is beautiful, unique and offered a lovely dining experience. The price however is not at all close to worth the quality of the food. The appetizer menu has some worth while choices but the mains are uninspired and my pork belly was poorly prepared, dry and chewy. At at little over $250 for 2 people w/ cocktails it is not a place I would recommend for dinner. Go for some cocktails and apps (at US prices) so you can experience the location and then go get dinner somewhere else.

Food is great, quite expensive. The cave is amazing. Service above average but nothing spectacular. You are forced to leave at least 20% tip which is a lot and we did not feel like this was appropriate. If you are ok with this, it is a great place to celebrate something or visit once.
