We had a nice lunch at Albert’s yesterday. The outside table was perfect with the waterfall and the cool breeze. They have a limited menu due to COVID and they no longer serve their crusty sour dough rolls. The portions are generous and the service was good.
Two of us ordered the steak salad, one ordered the French Dip sandwich and one ordered the vegetable kabob with a pita sandwich- we were all delighted with our choices. The noise level inside can be high when the restaurant is full. We could go back in a heartbeat. Strongly recommend making a reservation well in advance!!
My fish tacos were excellent. Ditto for the service. The menu selection and my food was much better than my last visit a few years ago. It’s rather pricey but worth it for a special lunch or dinner. Not sure how a family could afford it although all of the food and beverages at the San Diego Zoo are ridiculously expensive so Albert’s is not bad comparatively. I look forward to returning.
I have always enjoyed eating at Albert's and this time during the pandemic was even more enjoyable! Protocols like air flow, spacing, and masking by the staff made me feel safe. The menu had wonderful choices and I was very happy with my peppered steak dip and beer-battered fries. The wine list is good and I had a nice Pinot Noir with my meal. Dessert was so decadent and yummy! The service was impeccable and we left very satisfied by our experience!
We had a fabulous lunch in a wonderful setting! Such a nice way to relax within the San Diego zoo
Great outdoors table. Great wait staff. Good food.
My crepe and salad were DELICIOUS! However, the kids meals are expensive, and not worth the money. $11 for a kids quesadilla and a little cup of fruit?!? Maybe the portion was correct, but the price was NOT. I’d love to see a better price point and better food options on the kids menu.
A nice place to sit and cool off for a bit. The food was good, service wasn't overly pleasant.
Made reservations on OpenTable well in advance for an outside table. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were told they did not have any tables outside and if we wanted to be seated, we would need to sit inside. Apparently, the concept of reserving a table is new to this restaurant. The food was good, but our appetizer arrived three-quarters of the way through our main course. My main issue is that staff treated the problems with the reservations and the late arrival of the appetizer as just a daily occurrence and did not care that it had an impact on our experience at the restaurant or the impact they have on the reputation of the San Diego Zoo.
Albert’s is deep within the Zoo, so I understand that everything has to be brought in to the restaurant from the outside. It’s a limited menu. Two of us found that our entrees were very hot spice-wise when the menu didn’t dictate they would be.
Food was ok, staff was friendly, atmosphere was beautiful (rainforest-like)….all in all, good night.
We had the baked vegetables and the ahi. Both were good. Next time only one. Too much good for seniors.
Nice venue when outside near a waterfall. Brunch is well done. Service is good. Considering when it is located, prices aren’t unreasonable.
So glad I booked a reservation, it was a nice break from the chaotic food areas in the zoo. It was quiet, nice and the food was great. Also the service was excellent- the host and server where so nice. Overall great experience and recommend for a nice break during your zoo trip!
Great food, excellent service...Alberts hits on all cylinders. We made a reservation for lunch, which I highly recommend since the place does fill up. We had a corner table outside next to the waterfall, which was loud, but wonderful! Jason, our server, was excellent. The menu is limited but they do each dish so well. Highly recommend this oasis as a rest from your busy day at the zoo.
As we have been Zoological members for 50+ years, we've been eating at Albert's for many of those years. It used to be an excellent restaurant with imaginative and tasteful entrées. You were always served warm, freshly made, breads at each table. The higher prices were justified as it was an unique and fine dining experience.
Unfortunately, over the past several years, the quality of the food has suffered and the choices available has shrunk to basically salads and sandwiches. If that is the direction that the Zoo's administration intended, so be it. But they have kept rather high prices while giving the customer fewer choices and poorer quality meals. The atmosphere is similar and hasn't really changed much in many years, but Albert's is no longer a restaurant that we can recommend.
Wonderful experience with the family. Everyone loved their food and drink choice.
Great! Loved it from beginning to end!
Sat on the patio and it was a nice escape from the heat. There is a waterfall which is kind of loud but it really just drowns out the other tables around you.
The latest chef changed up the menu and removed some items that we really loved. The menu is way paired down also due to COVID. Hoping the next chef will bring back the beloved mushroom risotto and the pot roast!
Been going to Alberts for many years now. 1st time on the outside patio seating which now has a very nice awning/cover over the whole area. Very pleasant to sit outside and listen to the waterfall. They have a "new" server named "Kacey" who is extremely friendly and helpful. They need to keep her for sure! Overall the zoo concessions are pricey, but Albert's remains a very good value for the good food and ambience.
We had reservations, but still had to wait. Once we were seated, service was good. However, the French dips were very disappointing. The meat was not thinly sliced, it was more like chopped as in Philly cheesesteak. The sauce in the meat so totally soaked the bread that it was completely soggy. We could not pick up the French dips and eat as a sandwich. For about $20 was expecting better. Fries were only so-so. Patio was kind of crowded, could only see the waterfall from a distance. Not the ambience was expecting. That said, was still nice to have a sit-down lunch in a shady, relatively attractive place. I recommend with some reservations. The chicken sandwiches looked better.
I go to the Zoo sometimes just to eat at Albert’s! My grandkids look forward to going.
The food's pretty good; the waterfall outside is amazing. We enjoyed the ambience and watching the sun go down outside our window. Very enjoyable.
It was such a nice place for dinner. We asked to be out on the patio, and got to listen to the waterfall as we enjoyed our yummy dinner.
Over the years the menu has been pared down in size settling on a few items that are quite tasty and fresh.. The salads are very refreshing
Not what it used to be. We were expecting a more extensive menu and better food and were disappointed. The server was non-existent during most of the time we were there and would often forget our requests. We had to ask other servers for basic things.
Not much of a selection foe brunch. 3 items No iced tea. Service was good. Wouldn’t spend the money again
1. Hostess was not very friendly, she appeared stressed and overworked. The server was great.
2. The menu was very limited, which is surprising being that it’s the only dine in restaurant in the “world famous” San Diego zoo!
3. The interior decor feels like hometown buffet, not the zoo
4. This restaurant has a lot of potential. We only went to the zoo to have a dinner here.
We ordered a Caesar salad and the French dip sandwich with sweet potato fries. Everything was delicious, and server was very sweet.
Food was good, got seated on the outdoor patio with the waterfall! Super hard to find the elevator to get to the actual restaurant!
Superb experience all around!
They have changed the menu and there wasn’t much to chose from. I got the fish tacos and they weren’t very good. My husband got the Reuben and the French fries were cold. The sandwich was okay. I used to like this restaurant. But until they get something on the menu that I like I will not return.
The menu sounded good online, but it turned out that the ambiance and service were the best things about this restaurant. The ingredients and description on the menu looked good, but the execution was subpar. The ahi tuna was so fibrous that it was impossible to cut and eat. The quality of the steak was not good and it was under seasoned. For the cost of the food, I really expected better quality. It’s not difficult to put in a bit more effort and train the kitchen better. I will say that our waiter clearly had experience and was a well trained waiter. The cadence of the meal and the way he interacted with us made it smooth and enjoyable. Too bad the food wasn’t good. Sad when a restaurant aaaalmost there, but not quite.
Thanks to the Hostess, we were able to sit outside near the waterfall, very relaxing. The thickly sliced Pastrami sandwiches were dry and tough. The French dip had quite a bit of thinly sliced beef, but the beef was drenched with some type of spicy runny sauce which turned the roll to mush, making it impossible to pick up the sandwich. Kid had an $11.00 hot dog, with a drink option of milk or water. Fries were quite good though. Service was fine.
Albert's is simply a wonderful experience. The food is off the top delish and the patio is just so relaxing.
Wonderful experience. Food and service was great. Best to make a reservation to sit on the patio.
Had to wait 20 minutes after our reservation time. Also specifically requested out door seating when I made reservation, but wasn’t noted on our reservation Our table had no settings and had to ask for them
Food, cocktails and ambiance were great. Food was slow in coming out.
Everything was great besides the fact that we made a reservation and we got there and she says it’s going to be a half hour wait. I said we made a reservation and her reply was it’s not a reservation it’s a recommendation? She said it’s stillI first come first serve?! Then get off open table and don’t lead people on thinking they have a reservation if you don’t actually take them!
