I was at the zoo with my daughter and we decided to stop at Alberts for lunch. It was nice to sit where it was cool and there was good service. The food was excellent, I had the steak salad and the kids meal of chicken and seasonal veggies had broccoli and carrots in butter and was very tasty and healthy. My daughter is three and I had forgotten her crayons so the waitress dug up some washable markers she had to let her use, it was very sweet.
Love the setting and like using open table for reservations instead of finding out so busy when eating when you feel like it.ade easier to plan day.
It’s a unique setting. The food is good, but not exceptional.
We are annual pass holders and I have struggled with the “fast food” options available throughout most of the zoo. I did some research and this restaurant came highly recommended. It did not disappoint. We all tried different items and next time we come again we will order the garlicky cheese bread, and salads. My vegetarian friends will also really like the veggie kabob plate. Everything we ate was well seasoned. Overall a very nice experience and we will make this our regular eating establishment. Make reservations though!
Surprisingly good for zoo food. Terry was an attentive server. Liked the view of waterfall.
For a more adult eating experience at the San Diego Zoo, make your reservations at Albert's. They had wonderful choices of lunchtime fare from hot pastrami sandwiches to salads. My wife and I both had Skirt Steak Salads with the Chimichurri Sauce which were just perfect for a break from the summer heat.
The zoo oriented craft cocktail selection was very creative and inviting.
Service was excellent as Jakob made sure our Ice Tea glasses were never empty.
We sat on the patio with the waterfall in the background which made for wonderful background noise without making it difficult to talk. Interior seating looked comfortable, inviting and was air conditioned.
With the summer crowd and grill restaurant above is was a bit of a journey to find, through all the terraces and step but there were plenty of signs and zoo staff to provide direction. There is an elevator, but the stroller crowd had lined up and the journey was shorter than the wait.
I have always wanted to go to this restaurant, but never managed to do so. Now I will go back regularly. What a treat. The food was super. I had the steak salad and will probably have it again every time!
Albert’s garlic cheese bread is the best. The patio is a great place to relax and cool off on a hot day.
A nice way to take a load off and rest your weary feet. Outdoor patio is calming with waterfall and jungle setting in a cool climate. The food is absolutely delicious and presentation is spot on!!
Excellent food and service. We had a wonderful time and could actually hear each other speak.
Definitely make a reservation ahead of time, the food is pretty good but it could be better for the prices they charge. Services great though and the setting at least sitting at the outside table was also great.
We've dined here in the past and it was nice, but we all thought the food was spectacular this time. And the mixed drinks were fun!
Great place for a nice lunch or dinner. Service and food were excellent.
Albert’s is a lovely place to dine during a zoo excursion. The ambiance is wonderful. The food is delicious. And the service is stellar!
Love the ambiance! Our server Lily was very sweet.
Nice folks, but not worth the price. We made reservations a week in advance, and although we requested to sit outside, people who had not made reservations were given priority. Very frustrating.
The fish tacos were terrible, but the Chef Salad was decent. If you order the tacos (comes with a side of beans), be prepared they do not have salsa at all. The mixed drinks were really good.
Next time we will just eat at one of the kiosks that offer more affordable food options, as the price and quality of Albert's is not worth it.
Unfortunately service was very slow and food was only so so. The setting was beautiful.
alberts is a wonderful restaurant. Food is excellelnt, service is great and the ambience is fabulous. Water fall is a bit noisey but its great.
Lovely restaurant at the zoo to enjoy nice food with family or friends!
The menu will be changing due to a new head chef being brought in. I expect the bread service and menu will be expanded.
The food was expensive and terrible. There was zero flavor, aside from excessive salt and oil in the cheesy garlic bread. The food just seemed slapped together instead of “prepared” for you. There are no appetizer selections so your only choice is the aforementioned garlic bread. The wait staff was very busy therefore they didn’t really have time to be overly personable. That said, they were nice, just understaffed. It was nice to be able to step away from the hustle and bustle of the zoo and dine while still in the midst of the park and we will likely return to Albert’s because of that, but please please revisit your menu and add healthier items and just a wee bit of flavor and care in it’s preparation.
The fish tacos are great
The mojito was very refreshing
Very disappointed with Alberts food and the selection. Alberts was great restaurant to enjoy culinary experience while visiting the SD Zoo. They have hardly a selection of food on the menu and insipid food to boot. Fire the chef and get someone new with great culinary ideas.
Nice relaxing stop to chill out and get away from the crowds. A little pricey, but it is inside a park so not unexpected.
Excellent food, reasonable price for being in the zoo. Staff is attentive and prompt.
POOR SERVICE FROM “GEORGIA” THE HOSTESS of Alberts. She needs more training in manners and in how to treat customers. Georgia is the reason for the low rating.
Read Yvette’s (L.A.) review and her problem with seating in the outdoor patio. Very similar to what I experienced when I was at Albert’s. I too made a previous reservation for the outdoor patio. Too much of a coincidence that we both experienced somewhat the same problem.
Our server James gave us very good dinner service. The food was really good.
We love Alberts. Hidden away ... we asked for a table near the waterfall because it was our anniversary ... well because we wanted that. When we checked in, they said they didn't have a table near the waterfall but I had expected that. But by the time we were seated, an outside table materialized.
Ordered exotic drinks. One winner, one loser. But it was an adventure. Food excellent. Service excellent.
Incredibly location! The food was delicious. Felt like being on vacation even though we live here.
Beautiful setting near a waterfall. Peaceful atmosphere with generously filled plates of excellent food. Our server Terry was the best ever with an outstanding kind attitude and perfectly timed service. Terry made our experience one to remember.
We booked this reservation months in advance. We told them it was a special day for us and asked to be seated waterside by the waterfall. I called and talked with them and was told it wouldn’t be a problem. We get there and are seated outside as far away from the waterfall as they could in a table that we couldn’t get seated without asked people from the large party next to us to move for us to get in. They had 2 tables right beside the waterfall empty. I asked to be seated there and they said it was reserved. I told them I had reserved months in advance. I kid you not, the girl said no this table over here is all I can offer you that one is saved for a special guest. Well that made us feel horrible and ruined our special day before we even sat down. I was so upset that I could barely eat. It was a shame because everything else on our special day was perfect and this dinner left it all feeling bad. I am so sad for our day. Management should be ashamed! 2 older ladies sat at the table for 4 and didn’t come till much later. Even if it is saved for a “special guest” you don’t need to say that to us and make us feel so bad. The others enjoyed their food. Since I was the one the one responsible I could barely eat. It was ruined for me.
Our server did a fine job this is completely reflective on the hostess and the management.
Good is average but the setting is pretty cool up in the trees of the zoo.
My friend and I experienced a very nice lunch she had that all he tuna which she said was fabulous I had the Caesar salad with shrimp everything tasted really good and the ambience was wonderful the server was very kind and was very attentive we really enjoyed our lunch and we would definitely come back here and probably have the same meal because it was so delicious experience was very nice especially by the waterfall!!🥰
Wonderful food and service. Outstanding restaurant that happens to be in a zoo!
I would like to see more salads on the menu. Food was salty. We all had different things to eat but we all thought everything was too salty. Lily was a great server.
We celebrate our wedding anniversary every year at Alberts. We love everything about it.
Brunch at the zoo. Only three items on menu due to staff shortages. The crew that was there did a great job amd we’re cheerful. It’s an excellent place to sit and recharge before seeing the second half of the zoo.
Best place and value to eat at while at the zoo. Just make sure to make reservations.
We had an amazing date at alberts! The staff was incredibly thoughtful and helpful. We were pleasantly greeted by the host up front. She’s was courteous and helpful! Our waitress was also very friendly and helpful. She gave us time and amazing suggestions that we went with and absolutely loved. Overall we felt like VIPs and can’t wait to come back. Also can’t wait to share our experience with others! Thank you alberts restaurant staff! You made it an incredible one for us!
Alberts used to be a great place to eat. For the amount you pay , it was worth the price.
But lately the quality of the food does not match the price they charge for what you get.
So sad it used to be our favorite place to eat, every time we dined at the zoo.
Great food in a great setting. Fantastic place to eat while visiting the zoo
